Message from the Executive Director

Dear Members and Friends,

Join the CBSR network in 2013 and be a part of transforming the future of CSR in Canada.

CBSR's mission is to accelerate corporate social and environmental sustainability in Canada and challenge the "business as usual" model. We believe companies are ready for this challenge and many are actively rethinking their business models to create long term shareholder and societal value. These new business models require a new set of qualities that companies must embrace in order to strike a balance between commercial and societal success.

Last year, we conducted research into the essential qualities of these visionary companies, and launched a national dialogue to engage CBSR members, business leaders, and others on the qualities of the Transformational Company. This framework serves companies that are scaling up their sustainability efforts to address systemic societal risks and environmental challenges through business innovation.

We will continue to advance this work in 2013 and will be hosting a series of nation-wide learning and networking events that define how companies operationalize the Transformational Company qualities. We are also activating our diverse network of partnerships with leading CSR practitioners, NGOs, ENGOs and think tanks to bring you valuable research and insights. We are committed to providing you with a well-rounded and informed perspective, and will present you with information that does not always adhere to the status quo. Our goal is empower you to make smart business decisions informed by a wide range of stakeholders - not just an echo of your own voice.

Work with us to collectively charter a course to long-term business viability in our dramatically changing world, and make Canada the global example of how companies address the biggest social and environmental challenges of our time.

I look forward to collaborating with you in 2013!

Warm regards,

Steven Fish
Executive Director, CBSR

CBSR's 2013 FOCUS AREAS AND INITIATIVES
Nation-Wide Events

CBSR's learning events have proven to be successful at bringing together thought leaders, experts, and practitioners to tackle challenging issues and inspire new ideas and solutions. Last year, we tested a new way of delivering our webinars to include an in-person gathering for a deeper dive into the topic at hand and intimate networking. We've gotten positive feedback, and will use this model moving forward.

In 2013, CBSR is delivering 8 in-person events with a webinar and a social media component. Members will have the option to either join the event on-line or in-person depending on your time schedule and location.

CBSR will host our 11th Annual Summit on CSR in the fall of 2013 in Toronto. Corporate and SME members receive a complimentary pass to join the Summit this year.

If you are interested in information about sponsoring CBSR events, and/or Summit, please contact Steven Fish at steven@cbsr.ca.

Operationalizing the Transformational Company Framework

CBSR launched a national dialogue to engage business leaders and  others on the Transformational Company Qualities at our 10th Annual Summit.

The Qualities are designed to be a framework for medium and large companies who recognize the need to scale up their CSR and sustainability efforts to address systemic societal risks and business challenges and opportunities.

We found that transformational companies act beyond their own operations - and the foreseeable future. Their definition of success includes net positive impacts for society, the environment and their business.

CBSR is now pursuing partnerships for further phases of development to operationalize the qualities.

Please contact Steven Fish, steven@cbsr.ca for more information.
