Spay & Neuter!
|
Spay/neuter is a permanent, 100% effective method of birth control for cats and dogs and it helps save lives.
When we spay or neuter pets, feral cats, and other street animals, we ensure those animals and their offspring will not add to the millions of already suffering animals.

Hot Weather Tips to Keep Your Pets Safe
Information Courtesy of the ASPCA
|
|
The ASPCA experts warn some activities can be dangerous for our pets. Following a few simple rules can help prevent your pet from overheating, it is easy to keep your pet safe while still having fun in the sun. If you suspect your pet is suffering from heat stroke, get help from your veterinarian immediately.
> Get your pets spring or early summer check-ups.
> Make sure your pets get tested for heartworm (once/year)
> Give your pets plenty of fresh, clean water and make sure they have a shady resting place when outdoors.
> Don't over exercise your pets or let your dog linger on hot asphalt.
> Keep your pets indoors when it's extremely hot.

> Do not leave pets unattended in cars in warm or hot weather or unsupervised around a pool and be sure they wear flotation devices when on boats.
> Rinse your dogs off after swimming to remove chlorine or salt from fur, and try to keep your dogs from drinking pool water, which contains chlorine and other chemicals that could cause stomach upset.
> The layers of dogs' coats protect them from overheating and sunburn. Brushing cats more often than usual can prevent problems caused by excessive heat. Be sure that any sunscreen or insect repellent you use on your pets is labeled for use on animals.
> Common flea and tick products and lawn and garden insecticides can be harmful to cats and dogs if ingested - keep them out of reach.
> Food and drink eaten by us may be poisonous to our pets.
Any change of diet, even for one meal, may give your dogs or cats severe digestive ailments. Avoid raisins, grapes, onions, chocolate and products with the sweetener xylitol. > Never use fireworks around pets.
> Call your Vet or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435 if you suspect your animal has ingested any poison.
