Forget That Man and Others! (1 of 5)
Can we talk?
Can we really be honest?
Can we face the hard-fast truth about how we, as people really feel?
We say we are concerned about others, and to an extent that is true.
We say we feel each other's pain and to some degree, we are empathetic.
However, when it is all said and done, our natural inclination is: "It is ALLLLLLLL about me!"
What really matters is what will benefit us and satisfy our needs and desires!
We are more interested in solutions, which will resolve our dilemmas, and assure us of a life of comfort and delight!
Wonder how life, our feelings and interactions with one another would have been if Daddy-God's original Garden of Eden plan would not have been interrupted by sin!
Thank God as Christians, we will eventually experience that glorious and selfless existence for all eternity.

Forget That Man and Others!
But for now as we live in this present world, we personally feel and often encounter the mentality of Luke 8: 26-36.
These verses inform us of a man who was demon-possessed.
His mind, life and very being was in direct control of Satan and his demons, whose only agenda against
all people is to steal, kill and destroy anything and everything good for us.
This even includes Satan attempting to destroy our very lives.
Luke 8:27b- For a long time he had been homeless and naked, living in a cemetery outside the town.
V. 29b-This spirit had often taken control of the man. Even when he was placed under guard and put in
chains and shackles, he simply broke them and rushed out into the wilderness, completely under the demon's power.
In this state of being, thedemon-possessed man had been unable to live among and enjoy family and friends.
|
Forget That Man and Others!
This demon-possessed man was denied peace of mind, the decency of desiring and wearing clothes
and the opportunity to have self-respect as others did.
He was born and raised in the city, but now lived among the tombs in the cemetery of the dead of
those who no longer could hope and look for a change in their lives.
However, when one encounters the love, power and compassion of Jesus Christ, his or her life can and will change.
Jesus' love is always willing to deliver us from the hellish influence and hands of our greatest foe, Satan.
Thus, after encountering Jesus we find the condition of the man had changed.
V. 35-... and they saw the man who had been freed from the demons. He was sitting at Jesus' feet, fully clothed and perfectly sane, and they were all afraid.
|
Forget That Man and Others!
This man, for whom it was humanly impossible for him to change on his own, or at the hands of other
men, now was possessed by the power and Spirit of God.
He was now able to experience and enjoy deliverance from the oppressive and cruel lifestyle he had lived for so long in the clenches of Satan.
Instead of being delighted and celebrating the freedom of this man's mind, body and soul,
V 37- And all the people in the region of the Gerasenes begged Jesus to go away and leave them alone, for a great wave of fear swept over them.
Preferring their swine to Christ, they felt that His presence was dangerous to their greed. (Cambridge).
They felt they could not keep both the Savior and their swine, and of the two they preferred their swine! (Pulpit Comm.)
EVEN THOUGH OTHERS COULD BE DELIVERED, they desired Christ to depart from them, lest they should
suffer other and greater losses, than the loss of the swine; choosing rather that the devils should be
retained among them, than Christ to continue with them. (Gill)
|
Forget That Man and Others!
Rather than the deliverance of their fellow human beings, their desire to continue in their sinful ways
and definitely to hold on to their material resources was what mattered most to them.
When solutions are in our possession to provide but they weigh between impacting our material
resources and others' deliverances, let's not have the mentality of "Forget That Man and Others".
Yes, in that case it is them.
However, as we have discovered, we each will have our several turns of bad experiences where we need and desires the help of others.
As we don't want others to use those five words in regards to us, let's not use it in regards to others.
Let us desire for others, what we desire for ourselves; love, peace and happiness in the name of the Lord Jesus.
God bless you.

Too much self-centered attitude, you see, brings, you see, isolation. Result: loneliness, fear, anger. The extreme self-centered attitude is the source of suffering. Dalai Lama
Racism springs from the lie that certain human beings are less than fully human. It's a self-centered falsehood that corrupts our minds into believing we are right to treat others as we would not want to be treated. Alveda King
I like kindness. Who doesn't? Life is definitely too short for self-centered, abusive people. Ellen Greene
We have self-centered minds which get us into plenty of trouble. If we do not come to understand the error in the way we think, our self-awareness, which is our greatest blessing, is also our downfall. Joko Beck
We've had a major shift in what truth is and where it comes from. We've gone from being God-centered to self-centered, from being objective to being subjective, and from being internal to external.
Josh McDowell
I think that in today's world, by nature, we are all self-centered. And that often leads to selfishness. Gary Chapman
The flesh, or human nature, is generally lazy and self-centered. Joyce Meyer
If we live a self-directed, self-motivated, self-centered life, always needing to get our own way, then we're going to be miserable. In fact, many times we believe it's our problems that are making us unhappy when, in reality, it's because we're focused on ourselves! Joyce Meyer
Self-centered leaders manipulate when they move people for personal benefit. Mature leaders motivate by moving people for mutual benefit. John C. Maxwell
I don't know if it's ever OK for someone to be selfish. Perhaps there's a time and place to be self-centered, but I think selfish never wins the race.
Jessica Capshaw
Why are young adults so self-centered and always seeking instant gratification? Because older adults, often in positions of power, paint them that way. Raymond Arroyo
