REALITY CHECK--NOW WHAT? (1 of 5)
We love to escape to our personally structured Fantasy Islands.
Whether it is through our thoughts, beliefs or dreams, we create the fantasies, which we desire to be our realities.
These fantasies are always ideally perfect in comparison to the faulty realities of our lives, which is why we create fantasies.
We can even convince ourselves that what we think to be is reality, only to discover that our realities are far different from our fantasies.
It is not until situations contrary to our fantasies happen that snap us back into reality.
Such was the case with the Apostle Peter.
Peter had witnessed words spoken by Jesus happening in various situations, proving Jesus' supernatural knowledge and wisdom.
However, Peter chose not to embrace Jesus warning.

REALITY CHECK--NOW WHAT? !!!!! (2 of 5)
Mark 14: 27 "All of you will desert me... 29 Peter said to him, "Even if everyone else deserts you, I never will." 30 Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, Peter-this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny three times that you even know me." 31 "No!" Peter declared emphatically. "Even if I have to die with you, I will never deny you!" 67 She looked at him closely and said, "You were one of those with Jesus of Nazareth.
68 But Peter denied it. "I don't know what you're talking about," Just then, a rooster crowed. 69 she began telling the others, "This man is definitely one of them!" 70 But Peter denied it again. 71 Peter swore, "A curse on me if I'm lying-I don't know this man you're talking about!" 72 And immediately the rooster crowed the second time. Suddenly, Jesus' words flashed through
Peter's mind: "Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny three times that you even know me." And he broke down and wept.

REALITY CHECK--NOW WHAT? !!!
Luke 22:61- At that moment the Lord turned and looked at Peter.
What Jesus says, ALWAYS COME TO PASS!
What Jesus said Peter would do-Peter did it.
It wasn't until Peter had this Reality Check that his heart and thought system was humbled.
The rooster's crow was like the fingers, which snapped Peter, back into reality.
He was snapped out of his fantasy of not being capable of denying Christ.
Situations in our lives are as the rooster's crowing.
Destroyed relationships, unsuccessful careers, ailing health, failed decisions, etc. are just some of our experiences classified as the crowing of the rooster.
These are Reality Checks, which reveals our true realities and confronts our fantasy thinking.
As the prodigal son, we have the opportunity to come to ourselves and evaluate the thoughts and decisions we have made.
Then, the question is what we will do after that Reality Check.
Do we repent and go forward or do we wallow in guilt and shame?

Do we grow from that point?
Do we bury our opportunities, gifts, talents and even ourselves?
How Peter responded to his Reality Check reflected his true heart-no matter the arrogance or thought of his invincibility of denying Christ, which were originally displayed.
This even included Peter's strong stance against Jesus' warnings, because of his overly confident degree of love and devotion to Jesus.
Jesus forgives and helps us through the humbling of our Reality Checks.
Jesus had the angel to mention Peter's name in particular to the women in Mark 16:7-But go, tell his disciples and Peter.'"
Peter's situation is a very clear example of why we should heed the words of Jesus no matter what He speaks to us about ourselves.

Jesus knows and forewarns us of what is to come.
Such warnings should prompt us to seek His wisdom as to what we should do to possibly change the course of events.
By so doing, that would prevent us from learning necessary lessons by experiencing unnecessary emotional or mental anguishes.
However, as people who feel that we know more than we actually do, normally it takes such heartbreaks to
humble our hearts to embrace what Jesus is saying to us.
So, instead of attempting to out talk Jesus and the Holy Spirit, let's focus on listening and heeding their words.
Definitely, taking heed to their words challenges us to actions which we would rather not do.
Reality Checks will occur throughout life.
The Question which always follows a Reality Check is Now What?
