Control Your Power!        (1 of 5)

Because of the potential of its content, both small, as well as large packages must be examined. Modern technology has become so sophisticated, that even a tiny device can cause the destruction of many lives.

tongue

Man also has a tiny, yet powerful instrument within himself known as the tongue, which can either edify or destroy lives. It is so powerful that none of us can control it by ourselves.

James 3:3 NLT-We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth. 4-And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. 5-In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire.

Control Your Power!    (2 of 5)

James 3:3 6-And the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.

7-People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish,

8-but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison.

9-Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God.

10-And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!

Controlling the tongue is an on-going battle and will only be conquered by yielding it to the power of God and making a continuous and deliberate effort to monitor the words, which we speak.

Control Your Power!     (3 of 5)

no

We cannot use the excuse of it being an on-going challenge for the reason of not making the effort to control our speech.

Controlling one's tongue is crucial for both others andour own selves since we are told in Prov. 18:21- NLT-The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.

Whether healthy or destructive words were spoken to us as children, their effects consciously or unconsciously still affect our lives.  Prov. 15:4-NLT-Gentle words are a tree of life; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.

Thus such statements as; "You look lovely", "Yes, you can accomplish it", "You are special", "God loves me", "God is with me", are just some of the healing words we must speak to others and ourselves.

Control Your Power!  (4 of 5)

Even words of truth spoken harshly and not seasoned with love, grace and respect, will only fall on deaf ears and not produce the positive outcome of their potential.

Col. 4:6- ESV-Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

GWT-Everything you say should be kind and well thought out so that you know how to answer everyone.

salt

Some people believe if negative words and thoughts are kept internal and not voiced out loudly, they will have God's favor for what they did not speak.

However, that is not so. God desires that we reflect Him inwardly, which directly affects our lives, as well as outwardly which directly affects the lives of others.

1 Thess. 5:23-NLT-Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.

Control Your Power!  (5 of 5)

Therefore, the controlling and bridling of one's tongue not only must be an external discipline, but also an internal one.

The degree of how one's tongue is controlled internally will monitor its external expressions.  Matt. 23:26Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.

If having a privilege in others' lives to be a positive contributor by our words does not motivate us,
God is notating our actions

then perhaps we will be motivated by Matt. 12:36- NIV-But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the Day of Judgment for every empty word they have spoken.

Therefore, lets recognize the power housed behind our lips and seek to glorify God, edify one another and to encourage ourselves with wholesome words.

God bless you.

Thank you...I appreciate your words of wisdom...that was right on time. I D

Thanks so much Dr. Tonya Lewis... To God Be the Glory, GREAT and MIGHTY things He hath done!!!! R G-H

Hey Dr. Lewis:  Thanks for the wonderful words of wisdom for this week.  I know this is right. We do have to stay determined and focused in this life!  There are so many things that come up to distract us and throw us off course but we have to keep our hearts and minds on the Lord and Savior  at all times.  The devil is always trying to get us to think or go the other way. That is why we have to read our Bibles, pray, sing gospel songs. whatever it takes to keep our minds on the Lord. Thanks again for the word.  Love you lot's!  Evangelist L V

"Incredible change happens in your life when you decide to take control of what you do have power over instead of craving control over what you don't."
Steve Maraboli

Learn from the past, set vivid, detailed goals for the future, and live in the only moment of time over which you have any control: now.   Denis Waitley

"You must learn to let go. Release the stress. You were never in control anyway."  Steve Maraboli

The only thing you sometimes have control over is perspective. You don't have control over your situations (many of them). But you have a choice about how you view it.   Chris Pine

The most important lesson that I have learned is to trust God in every circumstance. Lots of times we go through different trials and following God's plan seems like it doesn't make any sense at all. God is always in control and he will never leave us.
Allyson Felix

"Whoever controls the media, controls the mind"
Jim Morrison

"The reason many people in our society are miserable, sick, and highly stressed is because of an unhealthy attachment to things they have no control over."    Steve Maraboli

"How would your life be different if...You stopped worrying about things you can't control and started focusing on the things you can? Let today be the day...You free yourself from fruitless worry, seize the day and take effective action on things you can change." Steve Maraboli

You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.  Maya Angelou

In dwelling, live close to the ground. In thinking, keep to the simple. In conflict, be fair and generous. In governing, don't try to control. In work, do what you enjoy. In family life, be completely present.    Lao Tzu

You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you.  Brian Tracy

Being in control of your life and having realistic expectations about your day-to-day challenges are the keys to stress management, which is perhaps the most important ingredient to living a happy, healthy and rewarding life.    Marilu Henner
