Don't Allow Yourself To Be Devoured! (1 of 5) Every Christian will experience emotional, mental and spiritually-challenging days! Just as written in Acts 10:34-- that God is no respecter of persons: it is also true of Satan. No matter what positions are held, how long one has been a faith filled believer, how much one prays, dances or shouts; no one is excluded. Therefore, we are told in 1 Peter 5:8- Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour (overwhelm, demolish, destroy). "Be sober - We must remain clear-headed and be not overcharged with the concerns of the world.
Be vigilant - Awake, and keep awake; be always watchful; never be off our guard; our enemies are alert, they are never off theirs.
We have an ever active, merciless, subtle enemy to contend with. Satan walketh about-he has access to us everywhere;
he knows our feelings and our tendencies.
Only God can know more and do more than he, therefore our care must be cast upon God."(Clarke).
Gill adds "As a roaring lion; so called, both on account of his strength, and also because of his rage, malice, and cruelty, which
he breathes out against the saints, who, though he cannot destroy us, will do all he can to terrify us".

Guzik adds, For Christians, Satan is a lion who may roar but who has been de-fanged at the cross (Colossians 2:15).
Yet the sound of his roar and his deceptive lies - are still potent and he has the power to devour souls and rob
Christians of effectiveness."
However, we are told how to overcome Satan in
1 Peter 5:9- Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are.
"The secret of spiritual warfare is simple, steadfast, resistance.
As we are steadfast in the faith, we resist the devil's lies, threats and intimidation.
Resist comes from two Greek words: stand and against.
Peter tells us to stand against the devil.
Satan can be set running by the resistance of the believer who comes in the authority of what Jesus did on the cross." (Guzik)

By no means give way to Satan, by indulging any sin, or yielding to any temptation. But, oppose him. (Gill) Steadfast in the faith -"means believing on the Son of God and walking uprightly before Him. To a soul thus engaged, Satan can do no damage. (Clarke)
Knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world: We also take comfort in knowing that we are never alone in our spiritual warfare. Our brothers and sisters in Jesus have fought, and are fighting, the same battles. (Guzik)

To continue to resist and overcome Satan, it is vitally important that we keep our faith at maximum level by flooding our minds with
the Word of God through preaching, teaching, studying, and music and through the uplifting fellowship of other believers.
When we are feeling weak and especially challenged-"nip it in the bud" with increased doses of God's Word through those avenues.
Don't allow mental or spiritual feebleness to linger in your mind-for if we do, Satan will accomplish devouring us,
WHICH IN JESUS' NAME, WE CAN'T LET HAPPEN!!

Dear Dr. Lewis: Thank you, again, for another powerful, spirit-filled newsletter. I enjoyed the message regarding enemies. I can identify with it so much. The attacks have come from different directions in past months: family, frenemies, etc. Yet, I am glad I serve a mighty God. He has kept me throughout the storm. No. I am not broken. I am stronger than ever. The enemies tried & did not succeed. I kept my focus on God the entire time. Thank God for His grace and mercy. Thank God for you!! When things get really tough, I connect with Daddy-God. He speaks to me through you quite a bit. Many times when I go to Facebook, there it is. He always, and I mean always has a message on your page that speaks to me. I just smile and say thank you, Lord. Just wanted to share! Love you so much. Blessings to you.
