The Free State Foundation will hold a policy seminar, "Reforming Communications Policy in the Digital Age: The Path Forward," on June 25, 2014, beginning at 9:00 a.m. in SVC Room 209-08 in the Capitol Visitors Center, Washington, DC. (Sign-in and complimentary continental breakfast begins at 8:45 a.m.)

Senator John Thune, the Ranking Member of the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, will deliver the Opening Keynote Address.

FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai will follow Senator Thune with "A View from the FCC."

Commissioner Ajit Pai

The discussion will continue with reactions from John Bergmayer, Public Knowledge, and Adam Thierer, Mercatus Center at George Mason University, and questions from the audience.

The House Commerce Committee is in the midst of an ongoing process to review and update the Communications Act. The FCC has just proposed to adopt controversial new net neutrality regulations and it is implementing complex new spectrum auction rules and policies. And, of course, the Commission will be reviewing two significant proposed mergers (Comcast/Time Warner Cable and AT&T/DIRECTV). There is more, of course, but there is no doubt, given the fast-paced technological and marketplace changes, that this is an especially propitious time to take stock of communications policy reform efforts.

There is no fee to attend this event, and a continental breakfast will be served. But in order to attend, you must register here

Don't forget that June 6th marks the 70thanniversary of the D-Day invasion. The new movie, "D-Day Normandy 1944," written and directed by Pascal Vuong and narrated by Tom Brokaw, is very well done. You can view the trailer here. The number of surviving WWII vets is diminishing rapidly - they are dying at a rate of about 555 a day. So each new generation of Americans must be educated anew regarding the meaning of June 6, 1944, a day that Mr. Brokaw says could easily be called, "the day that saved the world."
