LibraryNo Library Books = No Report Card
All Steele library books are due TOMORROW, Friday, May 20. Last year hundreds of books were not returned, which harms all our students. Due to the poor return rate last year, we have instituted a new policy: we will withhold your child's report card until all library books are returned.

We know students lose books, and other circumstances arise. If your child lost a book, please contact our librarian, Ms. Patty; we'll work on ways to replace the book. You can find information about outstanding books at: lion.dpsk12.org; hover over the My Lion tab (up top) and click Log In to My Account. (You will need your student's ID number.) Thanks for your help in ensuring we have great resources for all of our students.

New Music Teacher
I'm incredibly excited to announce we've hired Aaron Eigler to be our new Music Teacher. Aaron has been working as a second educator in Ms. Tiffany's room this year; he graduated from the Stanley British Primary Teacher Program last year. He has demonstrated an amazing ability to connect with students, develop meaningful projects, and make learning fun. I was very excited when I found out he was a musician and not only qualified to teach music but also had a desire to do so. We had a talented field of educators apply for this position, and Aaron came out on top. Multiple students came up to me after his interview lesson to tell me they hoped Mr. Aaron would be their music teacher next year. I know he'll do a great job. Click here for his bio.

Thanks for all you do!

Cheers,
Kevin

FieldDaySteele Field Day 2016: Olympic Spirit
Celebrate Steele's Field Day with your child TOMORROW, Friday, May 20. We have been studying Olympic summer events and now we're running the Olympic torch and spirit into Wash Park.

Kindergarten through second grade will be from 8:30 - 11:00. Third through fifth-graders will begin at 11:30 and finish near 2:15.

At 11:30, the 4x4 400 Team Relay kicks off our afternoon events. Don't miss this one! Our final event of the day is the "Fastest Stallion" 50-Yard Dash at 2:20.

Please send your child to school wearing gym shoes (no Crocs, sandals, flip-flops) and sunscreen. Students must bring their own water bottles marked with their names. We'll have water jugs for refills, but cannot provide cups.

If Mother Nature allows, there will be a wet station. Swimsuits beneath clothes are welcome; however shirts and shorts must be worn over suits.

I look forward to celebrating with the students! If you can give a hand setting up, running a station, or cleaning up, I'd greatly appreciate it. Please email timothy_welch@dpsk12.org.

Olympic Creed: The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.

Olympic Motto:The Olympic motto is made up of three Latin words: Citius - Altius - Fortius. These words mean Faster - Higher - Stronger.

Adopt-A-Bed in the Steele Garden for the Summer
The Steele Garden Committee is looking for families to "adopt-a-bed" for the summer in our school garden. Volunteers are asked to weed a bed once a week (June through August) and monitor the bed to assure the drip irrigation system is working. Any watering issues will be handled by a garden committee member. Committee members will also be available if you are going to be out of town and need help finding a substitute family in your absence.

In addition to knowing you are supporting the school garden's Seed to Cafeteria program, you may harvest and keep what is in your bed over the summer!

Contact Aimee Corazzari for more information and to sign up.

2016-17 Room Parents
It's time to consider being your child's classroom Room Parent for the next school year!  The room parent network consists of two volunteers in each classroom to assist teachers with class parties, share classroom news, and find ways to build classroom community. Learn more here.  Once you know your child's classroom for the coming year, email your name and the teacher's to next year's room parent coordinator, Nisha Ashley.
