Personnel Update
One of the hardest parts about the end of the school year is realizing that some amazing employees will be moving on. This year we'll say goodbye to Rhonda Margulies, Michelle Schibonski, Marilyn Kopperud, Liz Downs, and Ruth Flores. It's been a pleasure working with these five individuals over the last one to four years, and I appreciate all they've done for our students and community. I wish them the best in their future endeavors.

As many of you know, Allison Lantz will be moving to 3rd grade. Michelle Schibonski was her intern, and Allison is familiar with many of Michelle's students and parents. I'm excited that this will be a seamless transition for our students and a move that fits Allison's career goals.

We have two openings in kindergarten, one in music, and one in English Language Acquisition Intervention (ELA). We will also have some movement within our Differentiated Roles program. Differentiated Roles allows some teachers to teach half time while taking on a coaching role as the other part of their job. I'll discuss changes to this program in next week's Steele Stallion Press.

We've hired two new kindergarten teachers, Marlene Defranco and Sarah Holmquist. They both come to us from Adams 14, and each has four years of teaching experience. You can learn more by reading their bios (click on their names above). Amy Roberts, our current Instructional Coach, will move into the ELA Intervention role. Amy is an amazing educator and I'm thrilled to have her in this role.

I feel so fortunate that Steele's students, staff, and parent community have helped us build an excellent reputation. Due to this, we attract top candidates from all around the metro area. We continue to hire amazing teachers to carry on our tradition of excellence!

Thanks for all you do!

Cheers,
Kevin

Denver Public Schools Shakespeare Festival
Last Friday, April 29, almost 200 Steele students went to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts to participate in the DPS Shakespeare Festival. The festival is the largest of its kind in the country.

Steele performed 37 scenes, second only to DSA's 78. All Steele's 4th and 5th graders performed scenes from As You Like It, Richard III, and The Taming of the Shrew. Ms. Nath's second graders did an ensemble piece about the life and times of William Shakespeare. Ms. Thomas's second graders performed an ensemble piece that went along with the festival's As You Like It theme.

The day was dreary, wet, and cold - just like a London winter. The children performed boldly with great courage and strength. Spirits were high despite the weather.

Challenge Bowl
Congratulations to our two teams in the Shakespeare Challenge Bowl. The teams competed against teams from other schools. Our teams were tied at the end and had to have a tie-breaking question to determine first place. For the second year in a row, Steele took first and second place in the Challenge Bowl. Congrats to Addison Wolden, Abby Perruccio, and Hailey Husmann for winning the Challenge Bowl. Congratulations to Asher Weisberg, Kate Humphreys, and Maya Kitei for taking second place.
