Saying bon voyage to a Friend
It is with a mix of pride, joy and sorrow that I announce that Sarah Glover, our Instructional Coach and quasi Assistant Principal, has decided to take a job as the Director of Teacher Development at PEBC (Public Education and Business Consortium). I will personally miss Sarah tremendously. She has helped create an atmosphere of collaboration, continuous improvement and fun. Over the last 4 years Sarah has helped lead Professional Development, provided coaching for teachers and supported staff in numerous ways. She is an excellent educator who truly models the way when it comes to being reflective, diligent and putting students first. Working with her has certainly made me a better principal and I know that our entire staff would say that she has helped them become better teachers. I'd like to thank Sarah for all that she has done for Steele over the last 4 years; we are a better school because of her.

How do you replace someone like Sarah Glover...in the middle of the year...without causing a major disruption to the classes in the school? Luckily the talent pool in the Steele community runs deep and we have a plan that will keep Steele on pace to have another great year. I'd like to announce that Amy Roberts, who comes back from maternity leave in January, will be our Instructional Coach for the remainder of the school year.

This is Amy's 9th year in education and will be her 3rd at Steele. She was an intervention teacher at Steele for the last two years. In that role Amy displayed the ability to build strong relationships with students, parents and teachers. She collaborated with teachers to tailor her lessons to meet students' specific needs and was a resource for classroom teachers on how to meet the needs of all students. Erin Royer has been Amy's long-term sub for this semester and will stay on in this role. I'd like to enthusiastically welcome them to their new roles. I have observed Erin doing amazing work with her students and I know that the staff and I will benefit greatly from Amy's educational expertise.

Thanks for all you do-cheers Kevin

Help us better help you - survey on communications: response requested by 12/18
Two years ago we drafted a survey to understand how we can better communicate throughout the Steele Community.  Thanks to a high response rate, we have been able to apply many of our findings to make more resources available to both parents and teachers alike.
We hope you will take a few minutes to respond to this new survey so we can do an even better job of making key information available in the ways you prefer to receive it.
Thank you for supporting this effort, we will drive action from your feedback within the next month.

Clothes4KidsGive the Gift of Gently-Used Clothes
Steele Student Council is excited to sponsor the "Clothes to Kids"  drive for DPS students in need. Our student leaders are looking for families to 1) donate clothes, 2) refer families in need, and 3) help drop clothes off. We need gently-used and washed (required) pants, jeans, shirts, dresses, winter coats, shoes, and boots, as well as new underwear and new socks, for pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade kids. Drop items in the "Clothes for Kids" bins at the cafeteria doors through Tuesday, 12/15. To refer a family or be added to the clothes drop schedule, contact Darci Barlow.

School Choice Information
Choice season begins January 5, 2016. In order to use Online Choice form -- which saves you time -- you must have an active Parent Portal account. Click here to view the Parent Portal how-to guide. Note that if you do not log into your Parent Portal account, after two months it becomes a closed account.

If you have moved out of Steele's boundary or changed your address, you need to fill out School of Choice forms for the 2016-17 school year (even if your student is enrolled at Steele this year). Your student will still have placement here, but the paperwork has to be done. Questions? Contact Melissa in the Steele office.
