Halloween Parade
Are you feeling ghoulish? Steele's Halloween Parade is this Friday and we are ready to celebrate in style! We will have an all school Halloween parade on Friday from 8:20-8:45ish. We ask that students come to school dressed in their costumes so they are ready to participate. Please remember costumes should not have masks, weapons or be too scary. If you have any questions please ask your teacher or me. Classes will have their own individual parties later in the day. We do ask that students change back into "regular" clothes after the parade. We want to ensure that we can focus on learning for the rest of the day and being in costume can prevent that.

Turkey Trot
On Friday November 20th we will be having our annual Turkey Trot and Thanksgiving meal at Steele. Tickets for lunch must be purchased in advance for adults and non-students. No tickets will be sold after Monday, November 18th. Meal prices are $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for non-students, and $1.60 for all students attending Steele (this will come out of student's lunch account). You may purchase tickets from the Melissa or Paula in the Steele Elementary Office between 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM, starting today and ending Friday November 13th . Please contact Dee in the lunchroom if you have any questions -- (720) 424-3726. The kitchen staff looks forward to serving you!

What is the Turkey Trot?
For those of you new to Steele, the Turkey Trot is a fun event where our students dress up in Thanksgiving regalia and trot around the track. (Okay in all honesty some full out sprint and some walk and a lot do some of both). Coach Welch provides music to pump everyone up! After the trot, our students' head in for a well deserved Thanksgiving meal.

Times for the Turkey Trot and Thanksgiving lunch are listed below. I hope to see lots of families celebrating with us-cheers

Days off last week and next
Last week our teachers had two planning days where they were able to review student work, receive Professional Development on the new literacy curriculums we are using and also collaboratively plan. The review of student work will be shared in parent teacher conferences (or has been) and the Professional Developments were off campus led by the companies that provide us (and most of DPS) with the curriculum. Lastly, we met together as a staff to set norms for what each student should know when they leave their grade level. Of course this is set in the standards but we wanted to define what some of the standards look like in practice. This let us to work in foundational literacy skills.

Absence at Parent Teacher Conferences
I wanted to apologize for not being available during Wednesday's Parent Teacher Conference. I tried to come to work yesterday but the stomach bug I have made me go right back home. It is important to me that I am available for parents and that I get to do informal check-ins while you wait for or finish up conferences. I am sad that I missed that on Wednesday. I hope to be in better shape and back to work on Thursday. If you wanted to talk to me yesterday and were unable please shoot me an email to set up an appointment kevin_greeley@dpsk12.org

I hope everyone had or is going to have a great Parent Teacher Conference. Thanks for all you do-cheers Kevin

Remember to pick up your Lost and Found.  It is always donated the last school day of the month at the end of the day, 3:15.
School Choice Information
Choice season begins January 5, 2016. I would like to promote Online SchoolChoice.  We maintain that completing the Choice application online saves time for families and gets results back to families sooner. We hope to start pushing Online Choice now, and one of the first things we need to accomplish is making sure our families have active Parent Portal accounts. Attached is the how to guide so you can get started. Please note that if you do not log into your account after 2 months it becomes a closed account.

Also if you have been attending Steele and have moved out of Steele's Boundary or have changed your address, then you will need to fill out school of choice forms for the 2016-2017 school year. Your students will still have their spot here with us but the paperwork still has to be done.

BOO! Don't be scared, now is a frightfully good time to donate to the Steele Stallion Fund!
Help us reach our $50,000 mid-campaign goal for the Stallion Fund. Make a one-time contribution now or set up monthly recurring contributions that work with your budget. null

In addition to the Havana Nights paddle raise for the Stallion Fund, Colorado Gives Day on December 8th is a terrific opportunity to make your contribution. Community First Foundation and FirstBank have put together a Million Dollar Incentive Fund. The percentage of the contributions we bring into
ColoradoGives.org on December 8th is the percentage of the million dollar incentive fund we will receive. Last year, that resulted in an additional $750 for Steele. This is a great day to encourage friends and family to support Steele.

Does your employer match your donations to non-profits (501c3)? Find out if you can double your impact by using your employer's donation matching program.

Learn more about the Stallion Fund or email Jessica Kottcamp.
