United Way
Campaign is Underway!
Early Pacesetter results from about a dozen organizations have brought in more than $250,000 toward the United Way of the Lakeshore's 2013 fundraising campaign.
Muskegon County Campaign Chair Laura Carpenter, manager of Plant 4 at Alcoa Howmet, announced that Pacesetters have raised more than $250,919, or about 9% of this year's goal. Carpenter announced the 2013 Muskegon goal: to raise $2,695,053 (3% higher than was raised in 2012) to help fund more than 40 programs and services throughout Muskegon County that target United Way's impact areas - helping kids succeed, improving healthy living and increasing financial stability and independence. Oceana County's goal is $115,000 and Newaygo County's goal is $120,000, for a three-county goal of $2,930,053.
Carpenter noted that for the second year, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle will be given away to a lucky donor. Anyone giving a new gift of $50 or more, or who increases a gift by $50 or more, will be eligible to win a Street Glide, if the gift is made by Dec. 31. The winner will be drawn at the annual meeting in April.
Preliminary results from the 2013 pacesetter campaigns show strong results, with some new campaigns and growth in existing campaigns over last year. Pacesetter campaigns begin about a month ahead of campaign kick off to help "set the pace" for the entire campaign.
The following Pacesetter companies all ran great campaigns, according to Carpenter:
- ADAC Automotive raised $28,750 and was a sponsor of the Harley-Davidson.
- Cannon Muskegon raised $53,516 and also sponsored the Harley.
- DTE Energy had 73% participation, sponsored Ride United and awarded a large grant to United Way that provided summer internships to 44 local youth.
- Mona Shores Public Schools involved Youth United members in its campaign and increased by 9%.
- Muskegon Area Intermediate School District had a 9% increase.
- North Muskegon Schools also involved Youth United and showed an 18% increase.
- City of Norton Shores had a 13% increase in fundraising.
- The County Prosecutor's Office had a 54% increase in giving.
- ServPro of Muskegon and Holland had a solid campaign with a 1% increase.
- Star Logic had a 104% increase.
- Rehmann raised $12,125.
- Hooker DeJong had a 44% increase in giving.
- Mercy Health Lakeshore raised $10,190 with several fun events for eomployees.
- Life Circles had a 44% increase in contributions.
- Arc/Muskegon went over its goal by 16%.
- Legal Aid of Western Michigan had an 11% increase with 100% participation.
- The United Way Human Service Center agencies had a 25% increase in giving.
- Muskegon County Realtors doubled their 2012 contributions, raising $8,421.
- Raymond James raised $12,125.
The campaigns in Oceana and Newaygo counties will kick off later this month. Both Newaygo and Oceana counties will hold Day of Caring events in early October.
