Wesco Campaign

Campaign runs September 1 to November 30

 

Wesco, Inc., is hosting a United Way campaign that will benefit United Way of the Lakeshore and 12 other United Ways around the state, which serve 16 different counties throughout Michigan.  For the next three months, Wesco stores will have donation jars on their counters for your donations.

 

United Way of the Lakeshore, which hosts the Wesco statewide campaign, benefits from 24 Wesco locations in our three county region.  There are 14 Wesco locations in Muskegon County;  7 locations in Newaygo County; and 3 locations in Oceana County who are participating.

 

The 2012 Wesco statewide campaign totaled $42,948.   

Muskegon County received $13,397; Newaygo County received $3,720; and Oceana County received $1,990.

2nd Annual Ride United Event

Ride 15, 50 or 100 Miles!!!!

 

Ride United 2013 has fashioned the 100-mile route in the shape of a three leaf clover.  Each "leaf" is a loop beginning and ending at Rotary Park at Heritage Landing. 

 

"Leaf 1" begins at Rotary Park and goes to Goodrich Park in Whitehall and returns to Rotary Park (50 miles).

 

"Leaf 2" begins at Rotary Park and goes to Ravenna and returns to Rotary Park (35 miles).

 

"Leaf 3" begins at Rotary Park and goes to the lakeshore and back to Rotary Park (15 miles).

 

The 100-mile riders will begin at Rotary Park at 8 a.m. and will complete Leaf 1, 2 and 3.  The 50-mile riders will begin at Rotary Park at 8 a.m. and will complete Leaf 1.  The 15-mile riders will begin at Rotary Park at 8 a.m. and will complete Leaf 3.  The 50-mile riders may choose to complete Leaf 2 and 3 if they prefer.  Riders may start at 12 p.m. on Leafe 2 and 3 if desired.

  

Registration fee is $75, but the fee is waived for those riders who secure $150 in pledges. Visit our website for updated route information. For information or to register go to ridemi.org  and click on the "REGISTER" banner. To ensure sufficient time to order Ride United Jerseys, riders are encouraged to sign up by Friday, August 23, 2013.

Women's Leadership Network  

 

Every Woman's Place/Webster House, 175 W. Apple Ave., is in immediate need of a children's waiting room. When mothers come with their children for the initial intake interview there is not a safe place for the children to wait. There is a small room that will accommodate 4 to 5 adults working at a time.  Please contact claudia@unitedwaylakeshore.org for a schedule.

  

EVERY WOMAN'S PLACE WISH LIST:  Chalk board wall, multi color chalk, TV, DVD player, Books for all ages of children, Book Shelf, Games-(not a lot of small pieces), Rocking Chair, Dolls, Trucks, Portable Play Pen.  You can drop off your donations to United Way, 31 East Clay Avenue, downtown Muskegon.

Youth Summer Intern Program

This is Sabrealia Easter, a participant of the Summer Youth Experience Program operated by Michigan Works!  that matches local high school students with non-profit work experience.  A grant from DTE Energy foundation to United Way allowed the program to continue this summerSabrealia was placed at Red Cross for the past 6 weeks and has been assisting in the office and helping with community outreach.  Her last day is this Thursday already and we wish her well as she moves on to Saginaw Valley to pursue her bachelor's degree.  It was great to be a part of this youth program this summer!

as a result of the Affordable Care Act

Financial help may be available to cover the cost of insurance.
