GIVING THANKS
We'd like to share a story from Big Brothers Big Sisters, just one program which receives funding from United Way:
Jill, a single parent, was fortunate enough to find full-time work that paid well enough to support her and her two young children. When Ronald was in 2nd Grade, he began to have difficulties with his schoolwork and seemed to be withdrawing from his friends and family. Jill contacted Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lakeshore for help. Ultimately, it took over three years to find Connor to enter into Ronald's life as his Big Brother. By this time, Ronald was experiencing true difficulties in fourth grade.
Through the year, Connor worked with Ronald on their relationship while practicing basic reading and math skills. The consistency with visits and the additional assistance with basic reading and math skills began to pay off. They work on goal-setting together, go fishing and for lots of boat rides; sporting events. Jill has expressed her gratitude and true devotion for the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. She sees the benefit of having an additional caring adult involved in the lives of her children and is a true advocate, telling everyone she knows that they should become a Big, and is waiting for her chance to serve one day.
Thank you for supporting United Way of the Lakeshore!
