Forklift First Friday

Have you been telling a friend or neighbor about the Forklift for years?  Here's a great excuse to bring them to visit!

On the first Friday of each month, we stay open late to host live bands, artists, food trucks, plus a pop-up bar with craft beer and wine, thanks to Riverdale's Town Center Market.  It's a kid- and adult-friendly event, so all ages (and friendly, leashed pets) are welcome.

The next party is August 5th!

When: 6 PM - 8 PM, Friday August 5th
Where: Community Forklift, 4671 Tanglewood Drive, Edmonston, MD 20781 (Just 5 minutes outside NE DC, near Hyattsville)
Cost: Free and open to the public (but you may want to bring cash for food, beverage, & art purchases)

We'll have jazz funk from Glass Caravan, a rock and jazz quartet based in central MD.  They specialize in original compositions, innovative arrangements, and straight-up covers and standards.

Air Conditioners Needed

Are you keeping cool this summer? Help us make sure ALL our neighbors are able to beat the heat!

Through our Home Essentials program, Community Forklift provides free building materials, home fixtures, and appliances to neighbors in need. At the moment, the demand for window air conditioning units and refrigerators is sky-high, but we haven't seen enough of these items come through our warehouse to keep up.

If you have a spare AC unit or fridge that is fully functioning and clean, please bring it over to the warehouse!

It could make the difference for a senior trying to properly store her insulin, a father hoping to cut costs by buying healthy food in bulk for his kids, or someone with limited mobility trying to stay cool in their home.

Thanks, Forklift Fans - we know we can count on you!

Meet Our Partners:
Brick + Board

Brick + Board is a social enterprise dedicated to salvaging vintage building materials and preparing them for their next lives. Based in Baltimore, Brick + Board is a division of Humanim
, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, with the mission of hiring and training Baltimore residents with barriers to employment.

Superintendent Lionell and crew, with a haul of reclaimed materials from a deconstruction site.

Along with their sister organization, Details Deconstruction, Brick + Board has deconstructed over 130 vacant rowhouses in Baltimore, diverting 95% of waste from the landfill, salvaging over half a million bricks and nearly 150,000 board feet of lumber, and creating 35 jobs for Baltimoreans.

Now, you can find their beautiful reclaimed bricks here at Community Forklift.

At just $1 each, these vintage bricks are perfect for building a patio with a lovely patina!  You can find them in our courtyard, but we also have many pallets hidden in our overflow storage area - so if you need a large amount, just ask a Reuse Associate.

Vintage Hardware

You have just purchased the perfect piece of furniture... a glass front cabinet from the early 1900's, exactly what you have been looking for, at a bargain price. It just needs a little love... a hinge is missing from one of the doors, a piece of the wavy glass is broken and it needs a new latch. Where will you find everything?

Community Forklift, of course!  Check out our blog for details about our stock of hardware and parts for repair.

Tanglewood Works Expands

An update from Sue, the Senior Dumpster Diva at Tanglewood Works

"Sometimes you have to go back to move forward. We have so much amazing new inventory at the shop that we needed to move part of our space back into Community Forklift, where we started this whole upcycling journey back when we were Shabadaba Chic.  Feels like we have come full circle, joining efforts as two businesses focusing on salvage and community."

You can find this great upcycled inventory in Community Forklift's warehouse, across from our Historic District room.

We'll save you a seat!
Remember, most of our classes include a free opportunity to pre-register for prime seating. Just follow the class links below to RSVP on our EventBrite site.
