Dear Forklift Fans,
We've had a great spring so far! We've found new homes for a record number of salvaged materials, provided free supplies to amazing groups like Christmas in April, hosted a ton of educational and community events.

Attic-DC mentioned us in a great article about finding affordable and unique furniture in the DC area, and we
won Best Green Business of 2016 in the City Paper (tremendous thanks to all who voted!).

Even the dogs showed up in stylish attire for the 7th Annual Garden Party.
We are very grateful for the partners and volunteers who contributed to our big Garden Party and the Lie-Nielsen Hand Tool Event. (If you attended either of those, we may have captured you in a photo!  Please visit us on Facebook to tag yourself or email us to share your own pictures.)

There are more fun events coming up, so keep reading for all the details. Hope to see you at the warehouse soon!

ForkliftFirstFriday
Forklift First Fridays are back!

Last summer, we decided to stay open late once a month to throw a party.  It was a big hit, so we're doing it again!

On the first Friday of each month, we'll host live bands and local artists. We'll have a different food truck each time, and Riverdale's Town Center Market will set up a pop-up bar with craft beer and wine.  This is a kid- and adult-friendly event, so all ages (and friendly, leashed pets) are welcome.

When: 6 PM - 8 PM on the first Friday of every month (that's June 3rd, July 1st, August 5th, September 2nd, October 7th, November 4th, and December 2nd)
Where: the courtyard at Community Forklift - 4671 Tanglewood Drive, Edmonston, MD 20781 (Just 5 minutes outside DC, near Hyattsville )

News from our partners:
TreesTrees for Sacred Places

Did you know that there are FREE trees available for religious communities in Prince George's County?

Trees for Sacred Places is a wonderful program that can help your congregation plant trees and save on stormwater impact fees through Prince George's Alternative Compliance Program.

This program is also available statewide, so if you have connections with churches or faith-owned property anywhere in Maryland, please spread the word! For more info, visit

Have you visited Tanglewood Works, the cool and colorful shop in front of our warehouse? Fresh pieces arrive every week and Sue the Dumpster Diva always has fun stuff going on. For example:

Check out the #UpcycleJunkies to find out about upcoming meetups. There are several Mosaic Meetups coming up soon!

Tanglewood Works has just begun carrying Debi's Design Diary
DIY paint and wax, which makes it easy to paint old furniture.

Follow the DumpsterDivaDIY blog, Twitter, or Facebook to get upcycling tips and to see items that have just arrived.

YouthBuild
Youth Build Now Accepting Applications

At Community Forklift, we love providing supplies to local nonprofits and educators who do amazing things.  One such organization is the YouthBuild Public Charter School.  It is one of the few alternative schools in DC that serves youth who have dropped or aged out of traditional high schools.  While learning, students also serve their community through volunteer projects and by creating housing for low-income residents in the metro area.

Do you know any young folks who need a fresh start?  Please let them know that YouthBuild is now accepting applications for Fall 2016!

ETHM Wellness Ambassadors at a summer event at the Forklift
For two decades, our partners at End Time Harvest Ministries have been
educating, encouraging, employing, and empowering youth and families in Prince George's County.

In recent years, they've sent young folks to Community Forklift as volunteers and summer apprentices.  We've been so impressed with the time and energy they invest in these students, and we have loved watching the kids grow into confident community leaders.

On May 25th, ETHM will be hosting a 20th Anniversary Gala at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at UMD.  Please consider attending or donating; we'd love to walk the red carpet with you!
