Dear Forklift Fans,
This Saturday is our biggest event of the year: Community Forklift's Annual Garden Party! Round up some friends and family, and come on by. (Remember, we'll be awarding prizes to people and pets wearing garden party attire.)
If you're into woodworking, you'll enjoy our Lie-Nielsen Hand Tool Event later in April, and if you like creative upcycling, check out the Tanglewood Works meetups. We even have some comedy on the calendar: Wolf Pack Theatre is presenting " Love, Sex, and the IRS," and donating part of the ticket sales to Community Forklift.
If you are part of a faith community in Prince George's County, check out the Trees for Sacred Places program to find out how your congregation can receive free trees and save money on clean water fees.
Read on for all the details, and we hope to see you at the warehouse soon!

Garden shopping starts at 9am
Throughout the winter, we collect pre-loved lawn & garden tools as well as outdoor dcor and furniture. Then, we begin putting it all out for your shopping pleasure at 9am on April 2nd! It's the Forklift's biggest fundraiser each year - proceeds support our work to create green jobs, reduce waste, educate the public about reuse, and provide free supplies to nonprofits & neighbors in need.
(Note to early birds: no lawn & garden supplies are out yet. The Forklift will not have any garden items available until 9am on April 2nd).
You'll also want to stop by Tanglewood Works, the "front porch" of our Garden Party! This unique and whimsical shop at the front corner of Community Forklift features upcycled and reclaimed furniture, home goods, jewelry and art - all made by local artisans. Where else can you find planters made from recycled toilets and wind chimes made from spoons? Tanglewood Works will have fabulous and funky garden decor to help you create magical outdoors spaces. The Tanglewood Team will also have clever "garden-themed" upcycle activity sheets for projects that are great for children and adults. Be sure to check out their sample projects on display to inspire you to create your own "funky junk" garden decor with recycled materials.
The party gets going at 10:00 am
See the full schedule below! Wear a jaunty hat or colorful outfit, as prizes will be awarded throughout the day to adults, kids, and (leashed) pets in garden party attire.
Local Experts:
One-Day Sales:
ECO City Farms will be here with great seedlings, already sprouted and ready to go right into your garden. Hyattsville Horticulture Society will sell vegetable, flower, and herb seeds; along with some helpful gardening books. Good Sense Farm & Apiary will offer their custom tabletop mushroom farms, wild food CSA shares, umami spice mixes, and wild mushroom jerky. PERMIE KIDs will offer a selection of environmentally educational games, books, and other sustainable children's curriculum.
Activity Area for All Ages
Big and little Forklift Fans can give hands-on help to our local rivers! Help plant seedlings for the Anacostia Watershed Society to use in restoring wetlands. Then, check out the fun eco-activities led by Jen from PermieKids!
Live Music:
Free Workshops:
Yummy Food: National Reuse Award At 1pm, Ted Rieff, the President of the Reuse People of America, and Community Forklift CEO Nancy J. Meyer will recognize Patricia Flanagan. By using reclaimed materials in her emergency basement remodel, Ms. Flanagan won first place in the Remodeling & Construction category in the 2015 National Reuse Contest. So round up your friends, start planning your stylish garden party ensemble, and we'll see you on Saturday!

Love painted furniture, but don't know how to do it? Pine after the stained glass-look, but can't afford it?
Sure, online tutorials are a good start, but they often leave a lot of questions unanswered. Tanglewood Works to the rescue!
Tanglewood Works hosts classes and meetups for folks interested in furniture painting, dumpster diving, upcycling and other creative re-use projects. Upcoming meetups will focus on fiber art and mosaics.

Ok, Forklift Fans, here's a fun way to support 3 local organizations while you laugh yourself silly. The Wolf Pack Theatre Company (a multiple-time DC Metro Theater Arts Honoree) will be performing the hysterically funny farce Love, Sex and the I.R.S on April 8 - 16th. A portion of proceeds from the show will be donated to Community Forklift, and to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Get your tickets now to avoid a fine from Uncle Sam!

Lie-Nielsen Toolworks
April 22-23, 2016 at Community Forklift
"They don't make 'em like they used to..."
With many of the vintage items in our warehouse, that's true. You won't find cast iron grates or old-growth heart pine boards at a big box retailer!
But when it comes to woodworking tools, you'll be happy to know: Lie-Nielsen Toolworks began in 1981 as an effort to make top-quality hand tools available again from a U.S. maker, and to revive discontinued but useful designs.
At this event, they will bring their full line of hand tools to Community Forklift and demonstrate essential hand tool techniques for everyday woodworking.
