Delightful December Specials

Dear Forklift Fans,

This time of year can be stressful with traveling, cooking holiday meals, or trying to find the perfect gift for someone.
Though we can't book your flights or taste-test your recipes, Tanglewood Works can certainly help you with that last one! Their shop in front of our warehouse is packed with cool, one-of-a-kind gifts made from upcycled materials.

And if you like to send gifts to your favorite charities before the end of the tax year, please keep Community Forklift in mind.
Your gift to us will go far and make a real difference in our region.
Thanks to your support over the last ten years, forty people have good green jobs at the Forklift warehouse, hundreds of folks have learned about reuse through our educational programs, and thousands of people have been able to find affordable materials to improve their homes & small businesses.
But wait, there's more! In 2015, we were able to provide over $67,000 of materials free of charge to nonprofits and neighbors in need.

Through our  Community Building Blocks Program, we've helped cash-strapped local charities and civic groups. The nonprofits who have received free materials include everything from shelters and job-training programs to school drama clubs and community gardens.
Your support also helps us provide free materials to individuals and families through our Home Essentials Program. Among the hundreds of items we gave away this year, one great example was a mini-fridge for a cancer patient. He can't get out of bed on his own, so now he has access to food when his caretaker is away.
Another recent gift was a desk and a chair for a man transitioning out of homelessness. He told us, "You really, really helped me with that desk you dropped off. I can do all my homework for my GED now!"
These materials are little things, but they make a big difference to the folks who receive them.
And your support makes a big difference to Community Forklift! It costs a lot to operate our big warehouse, to purchase everything from work gloves to insurance, and to keep our trucks on the road picking up reusable materials.
Please consider making a financial contribution so we can continue turning trash into treasure for local communities. Remember, we are a nonprofit program, so your donation is tax-deductible.

Get your green gifts at Tanglewood Works!
In past holiday seasons, Community Forklift has hosted a "Mistletoe Market" for your gifting needs.  We would invite dozens of artists to consign with us, and clear out space in the warehouse for a selection of upcycled and eco-friendly gifts.

We're excited to report that, this year, we are not hosting our Mistletoe Market!  Why is this good news, you ask?
Well, our Mistletoe Market has been replaced by something even better:
Tanglewood Works
which is open year-round!
Sue Older-Mondeel consigned her Shabadaba Chic furniture and decor with us during the 2013 Mistletoe Market. It was so popular that we gave her a booth within the Forklift after the holiday season ended. But she was dreaming bigger, and when the rental space in front of our warehouse opened up, she took the leap. She gathered other artisans to work with her, and now it is a gorgeous space where artists who use vintage, reclaimed, salvaged, and recycled materials come together to sell their jewelry, art and furniture; learn from each other; and inspire other DIYers.
Tanglewood Works Gifts
This means that you now have a ton of options for December - and every other holiday, housewarming party, and birthday throughout the year! They're open 5 days a week, from Wednesday through Sunday. You can visit their website or follow their Facebook page to get a preview of all the cool offerings - the inventory changes constantly.

This free demonstration will be held at the Tanglewood Works shop in front of Community Forklift, at 4641 Tanglewood Drive, Hyattsville, MD

Wed. Dec. 16th:  6pm
Looking for that perfect hostess gift, or just a chance to leave the holiday stress behind and make some art? In this demo Sue will show you simple ways to turn ordinary glass ornaments and even recycled light bulbs into one-of-a-kind stained glass-style ornaments.

Take half off the marked price on bathroom vanities from the Palomar Hotel, while supplies last.
This stylish boutique hotel in downtown DC is part of the Kimpton chain, which is committed to eco-friendly practices. Therefore, when they removed materials during a recent remodel, they donated and recycled as much as they could.
