Labor Day Flash Sale Today
November Specials & Freebies

Dear Forklift Fans,

Between the cost, the commercialism, and the unhappy crowds, not everyone loves Black Friday. So we have an alternative: instead of fighting the masses to buy plastic junk, you can relax with friends and make presents.  Come on by the Forklift to celebrate GREEN Friday & Small Business Saturday!

It's a great way to entertain visiting relatives, and here's the best part:  this party is FREE!

We'll have food trucks and local bands, kid-friendly activities, and pictures with Santa Claus. Check out work from local artists, and help decorate a community tree. There will be crafting for all ages, and artisans will lead DIY gift workshops.  Get all the details below!

There are also still a few days to save big with November sales and giveaways, and some fun stuff happening in the community.

Hope to see you at the party!
Nancy J. Meyer
CEO

MISTLETOE MARKET
Inside the Forklift, a variety of local artists and vendors will offer their wares.  In addition to our workshop presenters, you can check out Black Beauty Seeds with organic honey, imported Arabian incense, and lotion; traditional blades made from reclaimed metal by MW Forge; and jewelry from wood sculptor and silversmith Richard Brown

You'll also want to check out Tanglewood Works, the colorful shop just in front of the warehouse. A project of Community Forklift, the store will be bursting with a variety of home decor, jewelry, and furniture all weekend. These great gifts are all made by local artists using reclaimed, up-cycled, and other eco-friendly materials. They'll have fun stuff happening throughout the celebration, including free chair massages in the afternoons - visit Tanglewoodworks.com for all the details!

CRAFT CORNER for "kids from 1 to 92"

There will be a free craft area for all ages offered by Jen Mendez of the educational resource network PermieKids. The crafts you can make may include corn husk dolls, self- or family portraits, woven vine baskets, and felted pencils, thanks to some generous alpacas in our area.
If you need to pick up some green gifts for the parents & kids on your list, PermieKids will also be selling great educational gifts & craft kits!

KIDS BARTER BLANKET (in the craft corner)

If you have an old toy or item still in good shape but ready for new little hands, bring it to the PermieKids barter blanket (along with its story of how it has brought joy into the life of the child who is giving it away)... our little Forklift Fans can swap stories as well as the gift.

FREE PICTURES WITH SANTA

Santa just loves DIY projects and he always makes sure to stop by the Forklift on Green Friday and Small Business Saturday to check in with all the little upcyclers and Forklift Fans!  You can help Santa decorate the community tree, and photos will be available afterwards on the Forklift's Facebook page.

FOOD TRUCKS

The Crepe Love food truck will offer sweet and savory curbside indulgences on Green Friday. On Small Business Saturday, the Green Bowl food truck will aim to make a positive impact on the community and your taste buds with Asian and Latin-inspired food.

The warehouse is a bit chilly, so make sure to bundle up - but there will be free hot cider to keep you warm!

BIG SALES
Don't worry... if you really must do some shopping while you're here, we will have deep discounts on almost everything in the warehouse, including both modern and vintage items!

Buying new appliances during the Black Friday discounts?
So what are you going to do with the old ones?

If your used appliances are still in good working order, please consider a donation to Community Forklift.

Through our Home Essentials Program, we provide free materials to neighbors in need, including seniors and families.  This time of year, the most frequent requests are for gently-used fridges, space heaters, stoves, wash machines, and dryers.

We would be very grateful for your donation!  Please visit our donations page for guidelines about what we can accept (Keep in mind that appliances must be in good working order, as we do not have staff or parts to repair them, and our HELP clients do not have the resources to pay for repairs).

We do offer a free pickup service for some items, but fill out our pickup request form as soon as possible - the wait can get very long in late fall, as everyone and their brother tries to donate before the end of the tax year!

2013 House tour ticket-holders leave the Miller home on Montgomery.  Photo by Nate Pesce of the Baltimore Sun

It's always fun to see what others have done to restore and repair their old homes. We're looking forward to getting inspiration from some of the beautiful historic homes on this tour in Laurel, Maryland.  The Laurel Museum's gift shop will also be open during the tour, so it's a great time to pick up a present for someone who loves local history!
