September Specials & Freebies

Dear Forklift Fans,

If you've got Monday off, then set your sails for Community Forklift - we're having a big warehouse-wide sale for the long weekend.PIC OF WAREHOUSENow through Monday, Oct. 12th, you can save 40% on almost everything in the warehouse!

(This sale does not include lumber, items with missing or damaged price tags, select specialty items, or items from our consignment partners. May not be combined with other sales.)

Throughout October, we've also got some month-long sales and giveaways going on, and we have some great resources for both homeowners and contractors.

Also in October, of course, is Halloween! We've put together a display at the warehouse with parts and props to make your own Halloween costume or decorations, and we've been collecting ideas on
Pinterest and Facebook.

Go check out the video of an adorable
little robot built with our HVAC parts, and please share your own pictures!

Now don't forget: the deadline for the National Reuse Contest is coming up at the end of the month.  We've had a Forklift Fan make it to the national finals for the last two years, so let's keep our winning streak going!

Good luck,
Nancy J. Meyer

ReuseContest
Want to Win $1,000 in Forklift Credit!?!
Sure You Do!

Every year Community Forklift joins reuse centers all across the nation to participate in The Reuse People Of America's National Reuse Contest. If you have recently finished a project using reclaimed building materials, or plan to in the near future, just submit it to your local participating store (that's us!) for a chance to win awesome prizes!
The contest closes on October 31, 2015.

We've only received a few entries so far, so your odds of winning in our local contest are good.  Big and small projects are welcome!  There are two categories:
* Construction and remodeling
* Art and furniture

Last year, "Kate's Folly" won second prize in the national contest.  This beautiful little backyard retreat was constructed with a ton of Forklift materials!

Nariarticle
A Resource for Contractors
Dear builders and remodelers:

We know that many of you are frequent donors to the 'Lift.  You hate to see good building materials go to waste, so you donate reusable items instead of dumping.  It makes your clients happy and reduces your disposal costs - and you also feel good about helping the environment and the local community.

Well, now there's another way you can improve your business while helping your favorite reuse center!

Do you know about the National Association of Remodeling Industries?  It's a trade group that can really benefit you, and if you mention Community Forklift when you join, they'll make a financial donation to support our work!

The Metro DC chapter is quite active, with excellent educational and networking opportunities, and connections to help you find more leads.  Members of NARI are full-service contractors, design-build firms, subcontractors, and other related professionals who work in and provides services to the remodeling industry.  NARI Metro DC is an advocate of education and doing business with other NARI members.  By continuing to raise the skill level of member companies and the advantages of working with other members, everyone succeeds.

Members are also able to attract new clients because NARI has a great reputation in our region.  NARI members are better prepared for working with homeowner needs thanks to continuous training, education and certification, as well as being able to offer the highest quality materials and services from highly-reputable partners.  All members are vetted through an independent review process, and have a background check completed on their licenses and business history to assure every member is operating at the highest standards.

The NARI Metro DC Chapter awarded their 2011 Image Award to Community Forklift.
We have been very grateful for the NARI's strong and growing support of the Forklift.  For example, they recently sponsored our fall festival, "This Old Warehouse," and they often invite our staff to chapter events so their members can learn about sending excess and salvage building materials our way.

If you have questions, just contact Nancy A. Copen-Newman, Director of Membership, at narimetrodc.nancy(at)gmail(dot)com.  Check out the NARI website and calendar to learn more about the opportunities they offer, and remember to mention Community Forklift if you decide to join!

NEWS FROM OUR PARTNERS
Grand Opening of Green Owl Design's New Boutique & Art Gallery!
The folks at Green Owl Design are experts at creating beautiful spaces, often incorporating vintage and reclaimed items.  A full-service Interior Design firm, they are launching a new boutique and gallery space in the Gateway Arts District corridor in Hyattsville.  A Grand Opening will be held on October 17, 2015 from 7pm - 11pm, with hors d'oeuvres and libations!

That evening, they'll also unveil their first solo artist exhibit by Maryland native Joseph Rogers. Roger's work embodies surrealism, symbolism, key motifs, and extraordinary color juxtaposition. He has the talent and style of such greats like Picasso and Chagall while maintaining his own unique identity (Joe's work may look familiar to many of you, as he exhibited at Forklift First Fridays this summer).

Green Owl Design is located at 5303 Baltimore Avenue, Ste 101, Hyattsville, MD 20781 in the historic Maryland Building.  Hope to see you there!
Vigilante's Second Saturday Concerts
