September Specials & Freebies

Dear Forklift Fans,

Today is a great day to come by the 'Lift.  It's the last day of our Labor Day Sale, and you can
save 40% on almost everything in the warehouse
(details below).

Not only that, but the artists at Tanglewood Works are marking their first Birth-A-Versary with a sale, an open studio tour, and a Salvager Hunt.  Most exciting are today's free upcycling demos, covering topics like basic lamp repair, stained glass ornaments, and how to repair missing molding and trim.

Then, next Saturday Sept. 12th, from 10am-3pm, we'll have a lineup of old home experts and appraisal advice at our fall festival.  Workshop topics will include old window maintenance and restoration and electrical systems in old homes.

You can also enjoy live music and BBQ and check out our selection of vintage tools (normally sold only online).

Keep reading for all the details!

See you soon,
Nancy J. Meyer

The artisans at Tanglewood Works are celebrating their first year in business with a big celebration today.  If you haven't been into this amazing shop in front of the Forklift warehouse, now is the time!

LABOR DAY - Monday,

What better way to commemorate Labor Day than celebrating the one-year anniversary of a local small business - AND celebrating its expansion!

Thanks to all the fantastic support from fans far and wide, as well as the talents of so many local artisans, Tanglewood Works has made it to its One-Year Anniversary!  Not only that, but thanks to the success of our first year and the high demand for upcycled furniture and artistic instruction, Tanglewood Works is unveiling its new 3,000-foot communal maker space.

To celebrate both of these milestones, we will be hosting an open house at the shop (4641 Tanglewood Drive, just in front of Community Forklift's warehouse) from 10am - 5pm on Labor Day. We'll be serving up refreshments and 10% off ALL store items.

From 10am - 5pm on Labor Day, we will also host an open studio tour at our new Maker Space (3613 Oak Lane, Mt Rainier). Here we will be hosting FREE upcycling demos and selling as-is furniture all day for discounted prices.  Topics include basic lamp repair, stained glass ornaments, and how to repair missing molding.

We will also be having a "Salvager Hunt" where participants can hunt for salvaged items at CF, Tanglewood The Shop and Tanglewood The Studios all weekend long. Turn in all three items and redeem your FREE Upcycled Prize at The Shop or the Studio.

Did you know Tanglewood Works also offers in-depth classes?  They sell out quickly though, so you have to sign up fast.

Sept. 13th:
From crab baskets to chicken feeders, there are so many fun objects to convert but you've gotta know the right way for the right piece.

Sept. 27th:
Learn multiple techniques for transferring images onto wood and even fabric. Prior to class, Sue will take your own personal images and prep them for transfer so that each participant gets to leave with a finished personalized piece of their very own.

TOW
Into old houses or old tools?
You're going to love the Forklift's 2015 fall festival...

On September 12th, we're celebrating all things
vintage, antique, and well-loved.

Wide Selection of Old Tools!
In addition to live music and food trucks, free restoration workshops and info from experts, you'll have a rare opportunity to check out our selection of antique tools & hardware (normally sold only online).

Antiques like these are crucial to the Forklift - the proceeds from rarer and more valuable items make it possible for our nonprofit program to survive!  Your purchases help to create good green jobs, reduce waste in the region, and support local community groups and neighbors in need.

Information & Demos!
Learn about preservation grants, rebates, local restoration companies, and more.  We'll have a ton of folks here to share useful info, including:

Prince George's Memory Project

Prince George's Co. Office of Historic Preservation

Appraisal Advice!
10 am - 3 pm
We love watching Antiques Roadshow, so we were inspired to do something similar!  Bring your knick-knacks, decor, and small furniture to the festival to learn more about them (much thanks to the Potomack Company for making this possible).

Sarah Reeder is a specialist at the Potomack Company. Her particular areas of expertise are mid-century modern design and decorative arts. She looks forward to providing guidance on a range of items including silver, ceramics, fine art, glass, and 20th century furniture and decorative arts. Individuals with items outside of Ms. Reeder's areas of expertise are welcome to bring their items and she will document them to be advised later by her colleagues.

Upcoming Flash Sales!

In addition to our monthly sales, we often announce surprise two-day sales on our social media pages.  The most recent example is the Labor Day Weekend 40% off Storewide Sale, which we announced on Friday night.

"But I'm reading the newsletter right now!," you say, "Doesn't this have all the sale info?"  Nope - this e-newsletter only goes out twice a month, so due to the timing it can't include all the surprise sales.

To find out about our Flash Sales, you can follow us on Twitter or Facebook.  Or, you can sign up to get an email every time we post on our blog - just enter your email address in the "Follow Our Blog' box on the right column of our webpage.
