Dear Forklift Fans,

Our sale this weekend is no joke!
Now through Monday, January 19, 2015, you can take 40% off items throughout the warehouse, and take 75% off orange-tag furniture.*
But let's not forget the reason for the long weekend:
Martin Luther King Day
Let's make it a day ON, not a day off! There are lots of events celebrating the life of Dr. King around town, and many opportunities to take part in the national day of service honoring his legacy - including service activities for kids!
And all year long, please remember: if you belong to a nonprofit, school, community, or faith group that serves the community, Community Forklift would like to help you out. Please visit our programs for more information, and to apply for free supplies and materials through our Community Building Blocks program.
* As always, this sale does not include items from Tanglewood Works, certain specialty items, items with missing or damaged pricetags, items from our consignment partners (Treincarnation, Salvage Arts, Alco Appliances) or Amazon Paint. The sale may not be combined with other sales.

Wanna plunge with us??
We can't confirm or deny that Jimmy Fallon will be on our Polar Bear Plunge team, but it's not too late for you to take part! Come cheer us on at 10:30am on Saturday, January 24th at National Harbor!
Here's the Forklift Freezer line-up:
Meg "Kold Adz" Kiernan
Josh "Brrrrrr" Bombeck
"Numb" Nick Stavely
Ruthie "the Rad" Mundell
"Rebel" Rob Rinker
"Jumping" Tom Johnson
and last but not least....
"Notorious" Nancy Meyer!
You're welcome to join the team too. But if you're not up for an icy dip, it's okay - what we really need is your financial support! Please visit our team page, choose your favorite Forklifter, and help us "keep winter cold" with a donation to help the Chesapeake Climate Action Network fight climate change.
(And here's a great bonus - Community Forklift gets to keep HALF of what we raise! Isn't that cool? Because our nonprofit is a leader in reducing waste and energy use, thus reducing the amount of carbon in the atmosphere, the Chesapeake Climate Action Network invited us to be a cosponsor and share in the proceeds).

Vigilante:
We'd like to formally welcome Vigilante Coffee Co., a specialty micro coffee roaster specializing in direct source coffee, to the neighborhood.
 | "Using materials from Community Forklift, we worked with Square Form to help stabilize and lower the benches for us." - Chris Vigilante, Owner |
Located just down the road from us at 4327 Gallatin Street in Hyattsville, MD, this sleek & cozy joint opened its doors last fall and has already made a big impression.
If you didn't know, coffee is owner Chris Vigilante's thing. From his work in establishing a coffee farm in Hawaii to his coffee farm travels in Colombia, he has learned the art of roasting and brewing, has found great beans, and has made a loyal following along the way.
Vigilante Coffee has shown its dedication to lifting up the local community by frequenting the `Lift and using locally-sourced products to build out his space with the help of local designers at Square Form based in Edmonston, MD.
We look forward to building community with you, Chris! (And drinking lots and lots of your coffee!)

The National Building Museum
needs your help!
 | NBM Teen apprentices using materials from the `Lift to build a Little Library |
which brings together 30 youth from the D.C. metro area to learn the basics of design and construction.
We look forward to working with NBM
again this year on the program, but before they can begin, they need some skilled volunteers to help them out.
Their Design Apprenticeship Program meets eight Saturdays, and volunteers actively instruct and assist the teens as they explore materials, learn to use power tools, and work in teams to fabricate their final product. Volunteers must be able to commit to at least six of the eight Saturdays. For more information, check out their website here:
