AWESOME AUGUST SALES

Hi Forklift Fans!

If you've visited our warehouse in the last year, perhaps you've noticed the little nook on aisle 2, full of colorful and creative items from our consignment partner, Sue Mondeel of Shabadaba Chic.

Sue Mondeel of Riverdale Park opens a new addition to Community Forklift

Well, her upcycled furniture and gorgeous decor has been so popular that she needs more room!

We're thrilled to announce the opening of our newest project, Tanglewood Works, located in the front corner of our building (it's just before you enter our courtyard, through the glass door to your left). Not only will you find Shabadaba Chic products there, but a variety of items from other artists who use recycled and reclaimed materials.

The grand opening will be

August 21st at 11am - 4pm.

To find out more, visit the website, and check out this great article in the Gazette!

Call for Rebranding Proposals

Does this logo make you think of a fun, offbeat community reuse center?  (Or would you assume it's a logo for a forklift company located in subdivision?)

We think it's time for a new logo!  We need something that better reflects the creative vibe here, our beautiful materials, and the strong Forklift community.
Community Forklift seeks a consultant with extensive experience in rebranding nonprofit organizations.  Familiarity with waste reduction and reuse issues would be a big plus.

For more information, see our proposal request here:

Fall Internships Available

Intern Angela Stewart liked interning so much
that she spent three semesters here!

This fall we are offering a number of internships on our Outreach & Education team (these are part-time unpaid internships, but do include a travel stipend).

Visit our website for more details!

If you have questions about interning or volunteering with Community Forklift, please email Meg at Outreach[at]CommunityForklift.org

Have an old piece of furniture you want to restore, but don't know how to get started? vintage furniture

Bring it into Community Forklift during this interactive, hands-on workshop.  Bergamin Fortunati will show you how to repair and restore old furniture, without great costs.  Bergamin will guide you through decisions on what kind of finish to use, how to decide whether or not to strip the wood, replace broken parts or remove water stains and marks. Trim, knobs, handles and other useful materials are available here at Community Forklift.  Bring your questions and let's get started!

Making and Using
Your Own Chalk Style Paint

Who: Sue Mondeel of Tanglewood Works
Where: Community Forklift, Inside Main Warehouse
When: August 23, 2014
Price: Free

At Shabadaba Chic, we are all about Reducing, Reusing and Recycling! There are many varieties of chalk style paints available today which make it easy for painting novices to tackle their own furniture facelifts, but the price tag can be daunting. The beauty of chalk based paint is its ability to adhere to almost any surface and to create customized weathered looks.

We will show you how to take any latex paint you find, either in your own basement or on the shelves at Community Forklift and mix up your own chalk based paint.

We'll show you how to measure it, mix it, paint it, layer it and weather it too.
Bring some paint and a small furniture item such as a stool, side table, chair, or any other metal or wood item that you would like to transform.

When asked by a client to describe her style, Sue replied "Not really Shabby Chic, more like ShaBADABA Chic!" The name stuck and a business was born.

Sue and her team find old furniture and vintage treasures and then work with local artisans by using the furniture as a canvas. Each piece becomes its own work of art. Susan's experience as a designer landed her on HGTV's Generation Renovation where her fearless color schemes left even the crew with dropped jaws.

Now Sue is sharing these colorful creations with the public right here at Community Forklift.
