Roundup of Community Events
AUGUST SALES

Dear Forklift Fans,

If you stopped by our Summer of Life Block Party last month, you would have seen 900 folks enjoying the event:  hula-hooping to live music, doing bikram yoga in the sun, petting puppies, relaxing with a massage, attending workshops on community health, and grabbing some fresh produce on their way out.

But don't worry - the summer sun is still high and there is lots of fun to be had at the warehouse. Keep reading to learn about our August sales, free DIY workshops on reuse, and other community events coming up.

Here are a few photos from the party.  Share yours on our Facebook page!
Youth Wellness Ambassadors from End Time Harvest Ministries got the party started!
They also gave health and wellness assessments to our partygoers.
SHINE MASSAGE of Riverdale Park offered FREE massages!
Joe's Movement Emporium offered zumba, hoola hooping, and other fitness classes while Riverdale Park Bikram Yoga shared poses in the sun.

It was a great day with our neighbors!

Community Forklift says goodbye to a wonderful Bladensburg youth apprentice

This summer, we've been lucky to have a talented local student, work with us through the Bladensburg Youth Summer Employment program.

As our 2014 Sustainable Business Apprentice, he helped us by organizing displays, serving customers, assisting the outreach & education team, and doing some heavy lifting in the warehouse. We were particularly impressed when he recruited his entire football team to help with the fresh produce giveaway at our Summer of Life block party.

We'll let Howard introduce himself:

Hello, my name is Howard Coles III.  I am a student athlete at Bladensburg High School.  I am one of the captains on the Bladensburg Mustangs football team.  I was offered this job by a wonderful lady by the name of Ms. Kelliebrew.  She helps those who are consistently successful at making good grades and having good attendance.  She and a gifted woman named Reverend Addison introduced me to the Wellness Ambassador program, which helped me to gain more faith in changing our community.

In my life, I love to have a positive impact on those who are around me.  I am 17 years old, and was 15 years old when my determination to be nothing but successful grew larger.  I thank God for my parents and best friend Ikea because they give me the push in life to keep my head up and have faith even when things seem faithless.  I enjoy working here at Community Forklift because of the positive energy the people bring forth.  It's so great that I can be asked to do something I've never done before and end up finding out that I could do it.  It's a good feeling to learn something new every day, because it puts you a step further in front of the average person.  I know if I can do it, anybody can.  To the students like me that are still in school, grades and attendance matter, so take care of your work first, then do your hobbies later.

While working here at Community Forklift, I have had a great time.  The people I work with have made me feel much like family.  They helped me to learn new things, and to get my football family, the "Bladensburg Mustangs," involved with the Port Towns Community.

Folks, remember Howard's name... we have a feeling he's headed for great things in the years ahead!
