SPRING IS HERE! Well, almost...
Help us usher in spring at our annual garden party! March 29th, 2014
Historically, spring is a time for rebirth and renewal. Here at the 'Lift, we give new life to old materials... So what better place to celebrate the season?
Our annual Garden Party & Sale is our largest and longest-running tradition. Drawing over 1,200 guests last year, it is a crazy and fun-filled day.
After squirreling away landscaping and garden supplies all winter, we put them all out for sale at once - and eager Forklift Fans start lining up at the gates even before we open at 9am!
Just as exciting are gardening workshops & demonstrations, live music and entertainment, activities for the whole family, and a lemonade lunch with grilled goodies.
Our favorite part of the tradition, however, is the Costume Contest for people & pets. Get out your jaunty caps, seersucker suits, frilly garden party dresses, and huge hats! Friendly pets are encouraged to join in the fun (they must be leashed).
We'll send out more details soon, but mark your calendars now for March 29th, 2014, from 9-5:30pm!

Got Tools?
Between now and the end of March, we are piling our warehouse sky-high with great
gardening tools, flowerpots, and supplies, and we sure could use your help.
Here's an excuse to clean out your garage, basement, or shed! Just drop off your landscaping materials and gardening supplies at Community Forklift any day during store hours. We're also offering a convenient alternative for those of you in NW DC and Montgomery County! Our friends at American Plant will be accepting your donations on two weekends, at both of their locations:

301-656-3311 MARCH 8-9 & MARCH 15-16 between 12-5PM

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT:
UMD CHEMICAL ENGINEERING HONORS CLUB
In addition to promoting high academic scholarship and professional service, the UMD Chemical Engineering Honors Club is lending a hand in the local community.
Members have been seen at A Wider Circle and most recently at Community Forklift, where they had the opportunity to keep paint out of the dump and onto store shelves.
The task was pretty relevant to our future biochemical engineers and environmental scientists. "Seeing and helping with the processing of chemicals so that they can be reused instead of discharged" was the best part of one volunteer's experience.
Hopefully, Community Forklift has taught them a thing or two about the importance of reuse, especially when it comes to chemicals!
If you would like to find out more about paint recycling initiatives or how to choose your next batch of paint wisely, here are some links:
UPDATE:
To date, our volunteers have kept over 800 gallons of paint from going to waste!!

WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST FORKLIFT FAN!
|
Sawyer Cooper was once a twinkle in his parents' eyes, especially on the day his father, Ryan was to teach a workshop at Community Forklift on Chicken Coops.
"The morning I was to teach the chicken coop class at CF, I woke up about 5:30AM to see my wife, who is not a morning person, laying in bed staring at me. I asked if everything was okay and she said, "I took another pregnancy test last night...". I didn't even have to wait for the end of the sentence to know what she meant."

Proud Papa & Momma Ryan and Tabatha Cooper
|
As workshop attendees had all minds focused on the chicken and the egg, we are sure that Ryan's mind was drifting off elsewhere. Nevertheless, Ryan recollects, "I think it went well."
If Sawyer loves tools and building things half as much as his daddy does, he'll be a frequent visitor at Community Forklift in no time.
We'd love to meet your little Forklift Fans! Share your stories and photos on our Facebook page.
