Announcing...

CF's Reuse Contest Winners!

We'd like to give a huge "Thank You" to all of our 2013  National Reuse Contest participants.

The judges had some amazing reuse projects to choose from, so narrowing it down to 3 winners was tougher than you'd think. The local DMV-area winners will be sent on to The Reuse People for consideration in the national contest, so keep your fingers crossed and let's root for our hometown finalists!

1st place: Chris Maxwell and Bea Trickett for their complete House Renovation
The judges were especially impressed with their elegant problem-solving in the weird kitchen.

2nd place: Derek and Rachel Liu for their Backyard Window Pavilion
So gorgeous - it was even featured in the Washington Post!

3rd place: Eric Hempstead for his Ecohouse Studio
From the Botanic Garden to Glen Echo's Bumper Car Pavilion, this structure came together from all over the region!

Thanks again to everybody who participated in the contest!  Make sure to take project photos as you work so you can enter for next year's contest!

And even if you don't want to enter the contest, let us feature you on our newly revamped Customer Creations Section -- read on for details!

New Customer Creations Section!

Imani

Summer Intern Imani Lewis took on the daunting task of reorganizing the "Customer Creations" section of our website into a more user-friendly format.  Rather than simply displaying all the creations chronologically on a single page, Imani went through and divided each of the 140+ projects we've received to date into easily understood categories -- Kitchen, Bathroom, Outdoor Projects, et cetera.  It took a while to get all the coding done, but now each project has its own page on our website, which you can share via Pinterest!

Kudos to Imani for a job well done.  We hope you'll enjoy perusing the Customer Creations!

And of course, if you're proud of how you've used Forklift materials in a project, please share it with us and inspire other Forklift Fans! Send a few photos and a description of what you did to Bea(at)CommunityForklift.org (If you're not too camera-shy, include a picture of yourself next to your completed project).

 New Rebate in

Prince George's County!

rain check logo
Prince George's County is committed to improving the quality of life for its communities by promoting green solutions to stormwater runoff. Stormwater runoff occurs when rain (or snowmelt) flows over the land picking up pollutants such as oil, grease, sediment, and nutrients which make their way into local streams and rivers. The Rain Check Rebate Program allows property owners to receive rebates for installing Rain Check-approved stormwater management practices. Homeowners, businesses, and nonprofit entities (including housing cooperatives and churches) can recoup some of the costs of installing practices covered by the program.

There will be a community workshop to learn more about Rain Check Rebates, just around the corner from Community Forklift:
