Thanks to you wonderful people, Community Forklift won the City Paper's Best of DC contest back in April. Well, now it's time for the Express contest, and we need your help TODAY before the nomination period ends!
 1) Go to the nomination page, 2) Scroll to the "Shopping" section, and 3) Write in Community Forklift for "Best Home Store" (you can do it as many times as you like!)  4) Ask your friends & neighbors to nominate us too, and keep your fingers crossed that we make it to the finals! Winning Best of DC will get us a lot of publicity. As more folks find out about us,
- more good stuff can be kept out of the landfill,
- more homeowners & small businesses can afford repairs,
- more free supplies can be provided to local community groups
- more green jobs will be created,

Pirates can plunder storewide!

Children's activities
Little Forklift Fans can make their own pirate eyepatch, spyglass, hat, and more. They can also Walk the Plank, and try their hand at Cap'n Hook's Ring Toss! Children always need to be accompanied by an adult while at Community Forklift.
Raffle drawings on the hour!
 10-11AM LIVE MUSIC - Letter of Marque will be singing nautical shanties, and marauding through the warehouse. 11AM-NOON Join Captain Redbeard to hunt Pirate's Treasure in the Community Forklift warehouse! Children need to be accompanied by an adult throughout the activity. NOON-1PM * Costume Contest Adults & Children are encouraged to participate - prizes for the best pirate-themed costumes! * Workshop: Arts, Antiques, Restoration with Mark Baker of Fireflies Studio NOON-3PM * Visit our grill station for lunch * Crafts station for little pirates Workshop: DIY Stripping and De-Rusting at Home with Eric Whitesell of ChemStrip 3-4PM Workshop: Your Classic Heat Emitters, friend or foe? with David Gordon of R&B Inc. A gallon of water heated to the proper temperature has more bang for the energy dollar than you would think. Pros/cons of staying with your classic radiators in your heating/cooling strategy. R&B inc. are the pros when it comes to heating and cooling your older home. 4:30-5:30PM Workshop: Taking The Mystery Out Of DIY Image Transfers with Sue Older-Mondeel of Shabadaba Chic Have you ever seen an image online, at a paper store, wrapping paper or even a family photograph that you wanted to imprint onto another surface? Sue of Shabadaba Chic will teach you various methods you can use to transfer images onto ceramics, wood, or even fabric. Learn this skill just in time to make personalized gifts for the holidays!

New Consignment Partner:
We're excited to welcome a new consignment partner to Community Forklift. Shabadaba Chic is owned and operated by local resident Sue Older-Mondeel. Not only does Sue showcase unique vintage finds, but she works with local artisans, carpenters and painters to combine salvaged treasures into one-of-a-kind home furnishings.
She turns vintage doors and architectural salvage into home organizers, and reclaimed wood into playful signs and wall d�cor. She and her team also breathe new life into neglected furniture by using these pieces as 3-dimensional canvases for creative paint finishes.
By working with salvaged architectural items, Sue can create custom orders in any size, shape or function.

We are seeking a Vintage and Specialty Products Coordinator to work part-time (30+ hours). This new position will be responsible for researching and pricing donated vintage and specialty products as well as working closely with our consignment partners. Ideal for an individual with a vast knowledge base and thorough understanding of the intricacies of vintage and antique pricing. Related experience required!
Our Customer Service team needs energetic and hardworking Reuse Associates to work part-time-including weekends-with our growing green business. Reuse Associates are retails sales positions within our home improvement thrift store. Candidates from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

"Lifting up Communities" all around town!
Do you live in the DMV (DC, Maryland, or Virginia)?
Chances are we'll be in your neighborhood sometime this fall!
The Outreach & Education team will have information booths at 20 community events and festivals in the next few months! We'll be sharing info about Community Forklift and other recycling and reuse options.
Bring your friends & family by our booth and introduce them to your favorite thrift store for home improvement & architectural salvage!
Just don't bring donations of materials to our information booths, please! Our staff often travels by bike or metro, so they won't be able to haul your donations back to the warehouse.  Click map for a larger version

It's not hard! We just need volunteers who are reliable, energetic, and friendly to hand out brochures and answer basic questions about Community Forklift at our booth at the DC Green Festival. Training will be provided. You MUST be available to volunteer at least 4 hours on:

10am-7pm
