Furniture Repair & Restoration Clinic
Saturday December 15th from 9am-5:30pm
Presented by Bill and Bob Kinneary

Figure out how to repair what's broken!  Carpenter Bill Kinneary of Cheverly, Maryland will be offering this all-day workshop with his brother, Bob Kinneary. It's best to bring in a furniture repair or restoration project from home so Bill and Bob can offer pointers, tips and hands-on advice geared just for you.

Converting Found Objects into Functional Art
Sunday December 16th, 2pm
Presented by James Kerns of Corehaus DC

Learn from recycling guru and installation artist James Kerns how to design and build a display table or small shelving unit from found and salvaged materials. Kerns is the owner of Corehaus, a contemporary design gallery in D.C.'s Petworth neighborhood. He and an assistant will provide tools and materials. Workshop attendees will be able to select materials from an inventory of pre-cut boards, fasteners and steel pieces.

Recent Additions to our

Green Gift Fair!

Check out our blog for the latest on our Green Gift Fair.  Now through December 30th!

Munir Ward of MWForge:
I use old tool steel, spring steel from security barriers that have been replaced, and old saw blades, to heat in my forge and turn into custom blades used for utilitarian purposes. I have made hunting knives, skinning knives, blades for display in collections, traditional knives, such as Bowie knives, Sgain Dubh, and Scottish Dirks. I use antler found in the woods, or found in antique shops, bones from beef ribs, and wood repurposed from dead trees.

Alan Binstock of Alan Binstock Sculpture

Based in Mt. Rainier, Alan is quite modest.  His fair application said only: "Lanterns are made of recycled tomato cans from pizza restaurants.  However, we happen to know that he is an accomplished artist, yogi, and NASA architect, and has received rave reviews in the Washington Post & Sculpture Magazine!  We're honored to have him exhibit here.

Jennie Carman of Purple Clover
Purple Clover creates eco-friendly home dcor products with a fresh, feminine feel.  Each piece is handmade from repurposed materials, such as outdated maps, industrial kickboard, floor tiles, and used clothing.  Artist, Jennie Carman, a Maryland native and interior design student, believes that with enough polish and paint, any item can become a delightful, eco-friendly creation any home would be proud to display.

Matt Menke of Scrounger, LLC

Home bars made from wood & metal purchased at CF, handpicked for character and made to be fun and practical.

Ella Bert

I make a green product- home made soap. I used only vegetable oils, herbs and essential oils. There are no synthetic fragannces, dyes or other chemicals except for sodium hydroxide, which is necessary for the soap making to take place. I use the least number of ingredients for a good and add nut oil to enhance it.  I do make one laundry bar the old fashioned way, with lard. It is labelled so people know. The other thing I do is pick the local lavender myself from a small organic grower in Virginia. I grow lavender and herbs, and hope to use them in future products.  The french label storage jars are recycled as are the paper and labels. They are printed on the computer, and are leftover from other print jobs.
