Caring for the Land
New Mexico State Land Office (SLO) works diligently to care for the land entrusted to the department on behalf of the beneficiaries. Commissioner Ray Powell, proud of his state's connection to the land, penned an op-ed piece celebrating the Rio Grande Del Norte national monument designation by President Obama in March 2013. The boundaries of the Taos County monument include roughly 45,000 acres of state trust land. Read the full op-ed.
Additionally, SLO is one of more than 20 organizations in the "Protect Our New Mexico - Stop Illegal Dumping" campaign. "Stopping illegal dumping is critical to protecting the economic value and health of our state lands," said State Land Commissioner Ray Powell. "By raising awareness about this issue and continuing to work with our outstanding lessees, local, state, and federal partners, we can keep our working lands healthy and productive."
