WPA is Looking for Volunteers

WPA would not succeed without the assistance of our dedicated volunteers who devote their, time, energy, and ideas to our mission of serving the greater DC arts community and our WPA artist members.

This fall is shaping up to be a very exciting and busy time for WPA. With a great lineup of programs and events and of course our big move to our new dedicated home at Atlantic Plumbing we are looking for volunteers. Whether they assist for a single event or in an ongoing project in the WPA Office, our volunteers are essential and deeply appreciated.

If you are interested in volunteering please email us at [email protected].

Cynthia Young

Cynthia Young, Night SkyOil on canvas, 36" x 40."

WPA is saddened by the loss of one or our ling time members, Cynthia "Cynnie" Young, who passed away earlier this month.

An artist all her life, Cynnie earned a Masters of Fine Arts from George Washington University, and exhibited her work across the Washington DC area, including Touchstone, Ozmosis, Foundry and City Galleries, Delaplaine Visual Arts Center and the McLean Project for the Arts. Her paintings, inspired by natural forms, spirituality and myth, and the Abstract Expressionists of the late forties and fifties, are held in public and private collections around the country. She was a passionate advocate for the arts and emerging artists, serving on the Board of Touchstone Gallery, and teaching art at Northern Virginia Community College.
Cynnie is remembered by friends and family as a curious, compassionate woman of conviction and caring. She was an active member of Rock Spring Congregational United Church of Christ, and a dedicated member of the Sunday Group and artists' book club.
