InfoEx Curator Talk: Naveen Mahantesh

Location:
Capitol Skyline Hotel
10 I (Eye) Street
Washington, DC 20024

Washington Project for the Arts is pleased to welcome visiting ISCP Curator Naveen Mahantesh from Bangalore, India to Washington, DC to meet with WPA member artists for one-on-one portfolio reviews.

Mr. Naveen Mahantesh will present a free public talk about his curatorial projects in India on Thursday, May 14 at the Capitol Skyline Hotel.

Artists, curators, and the public are invited to attend the free talk and meet Mr. Mahantesh at an informal reception to follow.

Naveen Mahantesh is an architect-urban designer based currently in Bangalore, India. He is the principal architect of CRESARC, a multi-disciplinary practice based in Bangalore where his practice lies at the intersection of art, architecture and the city. His projects have been included in several public forums and exhibitions including: FOA-FLUX - art | life | technology Symposiumat Swissnex (2015); INSERT (2014) and Sarai Reader Exhibition 09 (2013) curated by Raqs Media Collective; Mediating Modernities (2013) at Srushti School of Design; and design for change at TEDx R.V.Vidyaniketan, Bangalore (2013).

In 2013, he received a grant from KHOJ for his collaborative project ecologies of the excess, which dealt with the notion of 'excess' at grassroots levels. And as part of 080:30, he received a 2014 grant from India Foundation for the arts project 560 - Found space, which intimately situated art within the fabric of Bangalore City.

He has been a City as Studio fellow (2013) at Sarai-CSDS and a Visiting Faculty and critic for architectural design at several design institutes in Bangalore including R.V School of Architecture and SIT Tumkur. Mahantesh is involved in creative research with a cherished love for urban ecologies and an interest in providing alternative perspectives on everyday practices of the city. He holds a Masters degree in Architecture and Urban design from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY.
