(e)merge art fair
Join us at (e)merge this weekend!

The (e)merge art fair opens TONIGHT at the Capitol Skyline Hotel and runs through Sunday.

WPA returns for the fourth year of DC's only international art fair devoted to emerging artists
with works by Alejandro Pintado, as well as a selection of 8 x 8 inch works by WPA Member Artists.

The selection of individual member works highlights the creativity and artistic diversity of WPA's artist members, featuring photography, printmaking, drawing, painting, and digital media. Come out and support WPA and emerging art in DC!

WPA Reveals New Brand and Website

WPA, DC's leading artist service organization and contemporary arts presenter - reveals a new brand design and website featuring an enhanced ArtFile Online platform, WPA's interactive, searchable registry that presents, and now makes available for sale, the work of its artist members.

The new "look and feel" is inspired by the vision for the future of WPA as leadership plans for an upcoming move to a dynamic space in the U Street corridor cultural district - timed to coincide with WPA's 40-year anniversary milestone in 2015. The re-brand is a component of WPA's strategic plan for growth and expansion in 2015 and beyond...

Megan Van Wagoner

Megan Van Wagoner, Comforts of Home, 2009. Glass, clay, steel.10 x 60 x 9 inches.

artifact n. any object made by human work; esp. a simple or primitive tool, weapon, vessel, etc.
artifice n. 1. a clever expedient 2. trickery or craft 3. a sly or artful trick SYN. See art, trick

Through the artifacts that remain we believe we understand the stories of places and times we have not personally experienced. In reality we have no way of knowing if those artifacts reflect a reality or if they are artifice.

In my sculpture I capture moments in a narrative and express them as artifacts (or sometimes artifice). In many cases the narrative is autobiographical, but through the reduction of the story to a few simple objects I hope to make the narrative more universal and at the same time intriguing. Through the use of titles, clues about the subject are given to the viewer, but little is revealed. The narrative is yours to imagine. - Megan Van Wagoner
