Goer, Sender, Mobilizer - Which Are You?
Over the next three issues of The Bridge, I hope to shed some helpful light on these three roles in fulfilling the commission we have been given as Christ-followers.
For many people, to be a Goer seems to be the highest calling. And you may think that if you can't go then perhaps you can fill a somewhat lesser role by helping to send someone, by praying for them or maybe by encouraging others to consider going.
But the question is not about a higher or lower role, it is about the right role for you at this time in your life. It is about fully engaging in the "good works" He has prepared for you today, not about waiting for some future role.
And roles change. Scriptural examples of God's servants show them in all of these roles at one time or another. Even the Godhead can be seen, each exercising each of these three roles at various times.
So let's look at being a Mobilizer. A simple definition for a mobilizer is one who seeks to increase the number of goers and senders. They see needs and opportunities and challenge people to fill those needs. God the Father knew of specific needs when he mobilized Noah and Moses. Jesus mobilized a team of goers for a global cause. The Holy Spirit provides strength, encouragement and direction to equip goers and senders.
Consider this series of questions for your own present situation:
Am I a mobilizer, with a great desire to help people find their calling, to encourage others, to help them with guidance, direction, and a listening ear, willing to pray with them and for them, and to stand with them in their difficulties and their victories? Is that me? Am I to be a mobilizer at this time in my life?
It may be that being a mobilizer is exactly the role God has for you at this stage of your life, discovering what opportunities there are for expanding the Kingdom right close to home or farther away and making those opportunities known to those in your path of life, and praying that the Lord of the Harvest will send more workers.
This is a serious and significant role in fulfilling the commission we have been given. It is clear that we need more goers and senders. It is clear that mobilizers multiply themselves by not just being a goer or sender, but by increasing the number of workers. Also, this is not an easy role. The enemy understands the significance of multiplication and will work to discourage and thwart the efforts of mobilizers.
We need mobilizers. It is an important role and a high calling. If your heart resonates with this role, I challenge you to fully embrace it and do it with all your heart, as unto the Lord.
(In July and August we'll talk about being a Sender and a Goer.)
