THE LATEST IN P2P FUNDRAISING NEWS
In the May 2016 newsletter
Greetings!

In the classic movie Field of Dreams, a mysterious voice famously proclaims, "If you build it, they will come."

But as more nonprofits move into the world of do-it-yourself fundraising, they are quickly learning that they cannot rely on this Hollywood cliche to guide their efforts in this fast-growing form of P2P fundraising. Much like other peer-to-peer fundraising programs, successful DIY campaigns are built not only on technology, but on smart marketing and an intense focus on stewardship.

To learn about how to build your own successful DIY campaign, we've enlisted experts from some of North America's most established programs to share what they've learned in a pair of free webinars:
  • This Wednesday (May 25) superstars at the Canadian Cancer Society will discuss how they've raised more than $3 million through their DIY campaign. There's still room to register.
  • On June 14, you'll have the opportunity to learn from the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and the American Brain Tumor Association. Reserve your seat.
These experts will show you how to avoid the pitfalls that doom other campaigns and help your campaign achieve a true Hollywood ending.

Best,

Managing Web, Social and Mobile Channels for P2P Success

Light bulb
Social fundraising software can be a powerful tool in helping your participants fundraising. But you need more than just software to achieve results. You need an integrated strategy that involves your website, social media, and mobile.

Here are a few ideas to ensure that you're making the most of each of these channels as you encourage supporters to fundraise for your cause:
  • Create a "Fundraise Now" button in addition to your "Donate Now" button. Add resources for your supporters with ideas and stories from groups or individuals who have successfully raised money for you online.
  • Offer social coaching for fundraisers who are new to online tools. As part of this coaching, give them a "Social Fundraising Toolkit", which can provide hashtags and handles for your event and organization and also offer suggested wording for supporters to post on social networks. Highlight the marketing capabilities of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ and consider creating images for participants to share on specific social networks to spread the word about your cause and event.
  • Reach out to fundraisers at the right timeMobile web browsing ramps up after work. As a result, the most popular time for mobile web donations is between 8-10 p.m., when people are more likely to be using their smartphones and tablets while watching TV, listening to music, reading emails or browsing social networks. Try scheduling some of your campaign's social media updates, mobile-optimized emails or e-newsletters for early evening instead of early morning.

FREE WEBINAR:
Independent Fundraising Events in the Real World

Tuesday, June 14 at 1:00 pm ET

Nonprofits of all sizes and missions are looking to Independent Fundraising Events (IFEs) to expand their fundraising reach. But, even though one of the appeals of IFEs is that volunteers create and manage the events - requiring less time and money than nonprofit-led events, the nonprofit still has a significant role in inspiring and supporting volunteer fundraisers.

In this session, a panel of nonprofits  - including Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and the American Brain Tumor Association will answer moderator and audience questions about their real-world experiences with IFEs.

You will learn:
  • About inspiring independent fundraisers with ideas and support for IFEs
  • How to choose online tools, such as web portals, peer-to-peer sites, and registration forms, to make IFEs more successful
  • Results and lessons learned from real-life examples of IFEs
You will receive:
  • Unlimited access to the recorded version of this webinar (a great option if you're not able to attend on the designated date and time)
  • The opportunity to ask questions of the presenter (live attendees only)
  • A download of the PowerPoint presentation that accompanies this webinar

You don't have to organize a run, walk or ride to bring people together to raise money on your behalf.

Our ongoing research for The Big List of Peer-to-Peer Fundraising, reveals a growing number of campaigns around the world encouraging those who are creative - artists, musicians, and dancers - to raise money.
Two recent visual arts examples: Kenyon College Art Society's Draw-a-Thon and a school-based fundraiser that encourages kids to color pictures. We've also recently discovered a Pipe Band-a-Thon, which could easily be adapted for musicians who play other instruments.

Browse the Big List for more great P2P fundraising campaign ideas - and to share your examples of campaigns that enlist creative and artistic people to raise money for charity.
