Peer-to-Peer Thirty - Annual Benchmark Results Revealed

If the 10th Annual Peer-to-Peer Thirty benchmark study revealed anything it is that our field has undergone enormous change over the last decade.

Four of the five programs at the top of the list of the nation's largest peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns are raising substantially less money than a decade ago. But those losses are eclipsed by a growing cadre of smaller, but substantial fast-growing peer-to-peer programs.

A few highlights:
  • Overall, contributions to the 30 largest peer-to-peer fundraising programs in the U.S. totaled $1.57 billion in 2015, up 9.8 percent over the amount raised by the thirty largest programs in 2006
  • Top peer-to-peer fundraising efforts were down 2.55% compared with 2014
  • Nine of the programs on the 2015 P2P Thirty list have seen their revenues more than double during the past decade
  • Making it onto the list took $13.7 million in 2015, up from $2.6 million in 2006
Looking forward to a year full of helping you reach new heights.

Best,

CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS
ConfHighlightsTwo weeks ago more than 450 peer-to-peer fundraising pros from 37 states, Canada, the UK and Australia gathered in Orlando for our 10th Annual Conference.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS:

We celebrated our Cash, Sweat & Tears Award winner, Alexys Fleming with a standing ovation for her fundraising and awareness efforts on behalf of the American Diabetes Association. Since graduating high school in 2010, Fleming has raised more than $80,000 for the ADA through the Chicago Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes and by hosting private fundraising events. Much of that money has come through directly soliciting her fans and followers on YouTube - some of whom have actually been motivated by Fleming to fundraise for ADA alongside her. Read Alexys' inspiring story and see the other extraordinary Cash, Sweat & Tears nominees.

Our first-ever Program of the Year award went to the Pan-Mass Challenge. Founder Billy Star was interviewed on stage sharing insights from the program's success - raising a half-billion dollars for adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. Pan-Mass Challenge's impact on the field extends well beyond its amazing fundraising returns - serving as the role model for many other major cycling events and the P2P industry overall.  If you missed Billy live, you can hear him hold forth in this webinar recording.

Although we've still not settled on one term to describe it, the popularity of DIY Fundraising Summit made it clear that DIY or independent peer-to-peer fundraising is poised for tremendous growth. Nearly as many people flocked to that gathering as attended the proprietary program summit. Stay tuned for more year-round content and training to feed that hunger.

The New Annual Fund: Turning a Campaign into Campaigners
Tuesday, March 29 at 2 pm ET

In response to viewer feedback, public broadcasting station, KLRU, decided to test whether a digitally-driven, supporter-powered campaign could enhance - or even replace - their long-standing on-air membership drive. Learn how the experiment paid off: what worked, what they learned, and how they are moving forward to combine traditional marketing methods with online campaign elements to appeal to a wider audience. Susannah Winslow, Membership Director at KLRU, and Miriam Kagan, Senior Principal at Kimbia, will walk you though KLRU's path to success.

Attend this webinar to learn how to:
  • Combine traditional marketing with online campaigns, instead of making P2P a stand-alone revenue model
  • Enlist traditional supporters to grow your campaign (it's not just about the millennials)
  • Use lessons learned from a "first try" campaign in your overall marketing plan to increase donations year-round
