When it comes to thon fundraising, one size does not fit all.
A marathoner has about as much in common with a walker as a cheetah has with a house cat.
The challenges a solo event planner responsible for a $200,000 cycling event grapples with are starkly different from those facing the team producing a national series.
That's why we're so excited to announce that the 2013 Run Walk Ride Fundraising Conference will kick off with three simultaneous summits for the managers of endurance programs, emerging programs and the nation's largest programs.
That's just one of the major improvements to the event that will take place on March 13 & 14 at the W Atlanta Midtown.
The conference website launched today -- take a look!

PS -- I realize this is an odd day to send out a newsletter while so many of us on the east coast are preparing for Hurricane Sandy. I decided to hit send before we or many of you lost power. Wishing all of you a safe journey through this storm.

Reading the Tea Leaves
What are the opportunities for charitable event fundraising?
Participation in extreme and endurance events, like marathons, triathlons and mud events, is exploding. But charitable organizations lag behind - remaining largely focused on traditional walks, runs and rides.
During Run Walk Ride Fundraising Council's October webinar, Event 360's CEO Jeff Shuck, noted that nonprofits often focus on short-term feasibility, missing two important considerations when thinking about events:
- Will people want to participate?
It is no longer necessary to convince people to come out to do something. The real challenge today is to give them something interesting and compelling to do. - Is the event viable year after year?
Anything that requires a committee to volunteer 40 hours a week in the run up to the event or relies on the dedication of a small team of overworked underpaid employees may be feasible in the short-term but isn't sustainable or able to scale in the long-term.
To learn more about this and other trends and opportunities shaping the world of charitable event fundraising as 2012 draws to a close, check out this article or watch a free recording of the full webinar.

Run Walk Ride Fundraising Sponsored Webinar:
The Art and Benefits of Storytelling
Just like any car, computer or cruise line company, your cause is a brand. Your goal, just like a for-profit organization, is to connect more people with your brand and, ultimately, raise more money and awareness to fulfill your mission.
Effective storytelling can help you recruit new participants, motivate increased fundraising in the months leading up to your event and create a unique on-site experience which can further cement your relationship with your event participants.
Join us on Wednesday, November 14 at 1:30 pm ET as Matt Glass, partner and chief creative officer of Eventage, demonstrates how storytelling is one of the most powerful ways to create and build connections.
