"As you stated, in your description of The Four-Fold Goddess the Universe is primarily dissected into fours. Seeing this has hindered my identification with a deity that has only three aspects. Also, lately, having enjoyed the Maiden and endured the Mother, but being nowhere near the wisdom of the Crone, I've been feeling rather out of place. Reading your book has given me a celestial place to rest my throne. For that I very much thank you. I feel so strongly about the Queen aspect I am going to incorporate Her into the teachings to my daughters and others who have asked for my guidance."

Hail Queens!
The response to the last issue of The Queen's Chronicles, "Wage Peace" was very strong and very moving. It made me think that just one peace issue is not enough. There is so much to say, to do, to feel, to share.
We have been inundated lately from all fronts - economic, political, environmental, astrological, spiritual - with predictions and threats of terror and trauma. These are indeed scary times. What is at stake is our safety, our peace of mind, our centered inner selves, our very lives, and the lives of all the species who share our lovely planet home. Indeed, Mother Earth, Herself, is very vulnerable right now.
What to do?
We can shrink in fear and wallow in our worries - just close down. OR we can use this time to work toward the expansion, openness, and love that we all know in our heart of hearts is possible. We know that worrying is like praying for what we do not want. So, instead, let us put our intentions, attention, and energy toward what we do want.
We can actively resist the urge to freeze. We can breathe deeply to fill ourselves with the air of the ages, the oxygen than can calm us. And as we exhale, we can sing, chant, talk, shout out our love of life and our sacred prayers for peace.
I once gave a presentation in Washington, D.C. about creating peace in our world and in our lives. During the question and answer period, a woman commented that she wished that she could drop her job and just devote herself to working for peace. "What do you do?" I asked her. "I'm a therapist," she replied. Surely she has many opportunities every day to create peace in her professional capacity. As do we all.
One by one and all together we must learn and practice the ways of peace, cooperation, compassion, forgiveness, and understanding. We must put our spirit into action and, be the change we seek - in our hearts, in our homes, in our relationships, and in our communities. Surely, this is the humble but firm foundation of Peace on Earth. We are the world, after all.
I have an outgoing message on my answering machine that doesn't even say, "Hello." It just starts right in with, "You know there really is still a chance for peace and that chance will definitely increase if we each do our piece. So let's do our piece and make peace - in our homes, in our own hearts, in our relationships, in our communities, in all of our dealings and in the world. Peace be with us all."
Much to my surprise, the very people whom I never would have thought would respond favorably have. The overwhelmingly positive reactions that I have received from workmen, telephone solicitors, and service personnel has been an important lesson about the necessity to reach out beyond the boundaries of our biases, assumptions, and expectations.
A few weeks ago, I came home to a message from the plumber who was making an appointment to fix my sink. After listening to my taped pep talk, he answered in his gravely Brooklyn brogue, "Yeah, what is this war all about, anyway? Why are we fighting those people? They never hurt us." This, from someone I would have assumed to be a proponent of armed response.
The electrician, another guy who really shocked me, loves the message and calls in daily just to hear it! Once I was here when he called and when I picked up, he complained. "Let me call back again," he implored. "I want to hear the message. It makes me feel good." The reason, he explained, is that it is not political. It is personal. And it touches his heart.
But why was I surprised? People are just people, after all. When you think about it, all people are of a like-mind when it comes to living a life unthreatened by hatred and violence. The urgency for war only seems enticing when it is waged elsewhere. Ask anyone. "Do you want bombs and missiles to blow up your house?"
Every parent has the right to put her/his child to sleep each night without any risk of that child being shot, trapped in the midst of some hostile crossfire - be it in Syria, Afghanistan, The Congo, Palestine, or Chicago. No one wants to live and work in a war zone.
The way I see it, we are at a crossroads in our evolution. Either we will figure out how we can all live together on one planet without violence, or we won't. We are modern dinosaurs and it is up to us whether this meteor storm that swirls around us creating devastation in its path will drive us to extinction.
I have just been reading Chang and Eng by Darin Strauss about the original Siamese Twins who were, in fact, from Siam. Here were two men, fraternal twins, a double-boy, physically dissimilar and with radically different and antagonistic personalities who lived for 64 years connected to each other at the chest by a five inch long band of muscle and cartilage which housed their single stomach.
They married two sisters and had 21 biracial children between them - this, in the constrained society of the Victorian American South. These twins managed to make an awkward, untenable, sometimes unbearable situation work because they had to. They couldn't just walk away or hurt the other without suffering that same harm themselves. They learned how to live together because they had no choice.
Can we do less? If we don't do it who will? And if not now, when? The times could not be more crucial. And we Queens, are just the ones to lead the change. We must make ourselves accountable.
So let's walk our talk and create peace in our own lives, in our own country, and in the world. Not out of a misplaced sense of duty, but because it is a joy and an honor to do so. Because we can do no less.
With best blessings for peace on the planet.

Dalia Basiouny, a dear spirit sister and Queen who lives in Cairo sent this shockingly intimate and deeply troubling poem
from Gaza.
I cannot get it out of my mind.
Running Orders
By Lena Khalaf Tuffaha
They call us now. .
Before they drop the bombs.
The phone rings
and someone who knows my first name
calls and says in perfect Arabic
"This is David."
And in my stupor of sonic booms and glass shattering symphonies
still smashing around in my head
I think "Do I know any Davids in Gaza?"
They call us now to say
Run.
You have 58 seconds from the end of this message.
Your house is next.
They think of it as some kind of
war time courtesy.
It doesn't matter that
there is nowhere to run to.
It means nothing that the borders are closed
and your papers are worthless
and mark you only for a life sentence
in this prison by the sea
and the alleyways are narrow
and there are more human lives
packed one against the other
more than any other place on earth
Just run.
We aren't trying to kill you.
It doesn't matter that
you can't call us back to tell us
the people we claim to want aren't in your house
that there's no one here
except you and your children
who were cheering for Argentina
sharing the last loaf of bread for this week
counting candles left in case the power goes out.
It doesn't matter that you have children.
You live in the wrong place
and now is your chance to run
to nowhere.
It doesn't matter
that 58 seconds isn't long enough
to find your wedding album
or your son's favorite blanket
or your daughter's almost completed college application
or your shoes
or to gather everyone in the house.
It doesn't matter what you had planned.
It doesn't matter who you are
Prove you're human.
Prove you stand on two legs.
Run.
Tuffaha is the secretary and treasurer of the Institute for Middle East Understanding (IMEU), an independent non-profit organization that provides journalists with quick access to information about Palestine and the Palestinians, and has served as a press spokeswoman for the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee in Seattle."

How will peace come?
...in my mind is the memory of one lone Chinese student who, rising from the midst of the protesters in Tiananmen Square, stood in front of a moving tank whose orders were to sweep the square empty of anyone who dared to remain there once ordered to leave. The boy stood, head bowed, shoulders straight, feet planted squarely on the pavement. It was one unarmed boy against a Chinese tank. Suddenly, the tank stopped moving.
The power of the spirit had never been more clear than in the face-off between the tank and the thin young man. All the power in the world could not make the young man move, could not destroy his strength of spirit, could not break his resolve. Nor could it move the driver of the tank to an act of public barbarism in the name of public order.
"Peace hath her victories," Milton wrote, "no less renowned than war." All the weapons in the world, in other words, were, in the end, for nothing.
Peace is such a powerful presence.
A commitment to peace, to being peaceful, to peacefulness draws from a very deep well. It is a source beyond the corruptions of either ambition or pride. It transcends addiction to either power or personality cults.
And how does peace come? Simple. By accepting who we are and what we have as enough for us. By recognizing and respecting who the other is and what they have as theirs. By finding within ourselves "the pearl of great price," the richest thing there is in life, the sense of the presence of God who loves and companions us through all the pressures of life.
Then we find that we have changed. We have become peaceful. We have come to realize that we have all we need. We begin to see that our own role in life is only to spread the peace we have.
Then we begin to dedicate ourselves to that highest possible level of humanity that not only does good but, most of all, does no harm. To do no harm requires real care, genuine compassion, true realization that the glow of the other diminishes no glow of my own.
- Sister Joan Chittister

Dance for the Passion of Peace
|
|
When kings wage unjust war,
When poison fills the skies,
When the rich prey on the poor,
When hope for justice dies
When a spell lies o'er the land,
Of malice and of lies,
Then a wild and fearless band
Of women shall arise
Crazy saints, yoginis,
Peering through the gloom,
Maenads and dakinis
Witches grab your brooms!
Sweep away the stench
Sweep away the sneers!
Sweep away the clench
Of hunger and of fears
Dance to feel the passion
Dance to wake the wild,
To honor deep compassion,
For the forest and the child,
Dance to keep the Arctic cool,
To keep the jungle green,
Dance for every holy fool,
For every wound unseen.
Dance for justice, dance for peace
Dance for life to thrive,
May beauty, health and joy increase
For every being alive
Dance in love, dance in wrath,
For chains to fall apart,
Dance to choose a better path,
Dance for strength of heart,
All across the nation,
Bankers quail and glower,
Cracked is the foundation
Of the bastions of power
Strong walls crumble,
Kings face their final hour,
An angry earth shall rumble,
Down shall fall the Tower.
And through its stones shall weave the roots
Of a living tree
That offers us its shining fruits
Of truth and liberty
Fruit to fill each empty hand
With sweet gifts of the earth
Dance to heal this bleeding land-
A new world comes to birth.

I bless the future.
The future that lies like the embryo
Of a dream growing in our hearts.
A dream conceived in love,
Carried in trust, nurtured by faith,
And born in compassion.
A dream of a future of peace
A future of plenty
A future of spiritual fulfillment.
A dream raised by our best intentions
And realized by every thought we think,
Every action we take and every word we speak.
That future is now.

The Queen's Correspondence
|
|

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond to The Queen's Chronicles. It is a joy to connect with you and to share your comments with our sister Queens.
Letters in response to the SEPTEMBER 2014 Issue:
Ever since we met at your Queen workshop, I felt a deep, knowing connection of two like souls recognizing each other this time 'round. Always, I treasure your newsletters as heart-felt, courageous sharing of your heart and soul. Always, your writings have inspired me, and sometimes I use them in my Peacock Crones Women's Spirituality Groups. This one touched me in the deepest of ways. I cried throughout the reading. I too, have a brother with whom I share a similar past. Your introspection, self-confrontation, and healing realizations left a deep imprint. Peace and power to you, Sister, and a Happy and Healthy New Year!!!! With Love, Admiration, and Appreciation,
I just enjoyed reading your piece about having peace in our hearts. You and I seemed to have been traveling the same path at the same time. I am attaching a link that I posted on Facebook for World Peace Day. I hope you will take 3 minutes and watch it.
 | Let there be peace in Earth and let it begin with me Sung by Malana Ashlie |
My oldest brother and I have very different philosophies. He tells our other 4 brothers that he is ready for the Rapture and that I will not be taken when it comes because (he says) I worship trees. :-) I believe happiness is the true measure of a philosophy. I also agree with your statement "Maintaining peace is often harder than fighting." Peace requires greater task tension: being in the present moment. I wrote about this in my book - SHIFT: A 5th Dimensional Approach. I will send you a copy if you would like to read it. My spirit is always fed by your newsletters.
Re: The Golden Rule: Someone can say "Do unto others as they would have you do unto them." This version of the Golden Rule requires perceiving what the other may want, not what you want for them - there's too much of that in the world. This version is something my partner Taffy Seaborne worked out over time of contemplating Ngapartji-ngapartji (the Pitjantjatjara, the Indigenous Australians' cycle of reciprocity).
- PS Also thank you for having me on the Circle of Concern list all this time. I am being much better these days. You could probably take me off the list, though one can never be beyond such care. Much Love,
I have been reading your posts for several years now although I have never responded before. I refer to your book Celestially Auspicious Occasions on a regular basis. It has been a staple in my repertoire. I have shared its wisdom with many women and I have given the book as a gift. Anyway, I just wanted to connect. One of my goals is to enlarge our networks with like-minded women. It seems so important to me to support other women in the work they do and that all of us know what the others are doing in the world. I thoroughly enjoyed your last writing about "Joseph," your brother. I have a similar situation with my sister. Have a blessed day,
I was so touched by your piece regarding your brother and how you found the strength and maturity to let go of so many, many years of deep-seated anger. And I am very glad to learn that you and he had such a wonderfully emotional reunion.
We met at your Queen workshop at Womenspirit in the mountains of Western North Carolina several years ago.I always enjoy and look forward to your missives!
I so enjoyed the last issue of the Chronicles. And I listened to one of the radio interviews you did with a transformational radio host. Your earthiness, solidity, wisdom, and centeredness was very impressive. I appreciated the interview even though there were so many commercials. It started me thinking: when will you be ready to take the Queen to video land? CDs would be nice also, with some of your thoughtful exercises from the book. Of course nothing is as great as the vibration and energy exchange as an in person appearance.
Maybe the Queen will be able to establish her own channel. The people of Crone Magazine, you, and a very select group of others could really do so fantastic a service to provide info as well as interaction. Okay, maybe we can let Ram Das and Marion Woodman into that channel. A million thanks for all of your work up to now and into the great future ahead. May the Queen live long on 60,000,000 thrones.
- Francine, NY
Please keep your letters coming. And do feel free to make suggestions about content you would like to see. Or anything else, for that matter.
Your letters will be printed in the next Queen's Chronicles.

It takes a centered and confident Queen to break that pattern. There are 60 million thrones out there. One for each of us. There is plenty of purpose, passion and power for us all. May we use it well!
