WINE AND YOUR
SEX DRIVE
Wine and sex is definitely not a pairing that instantly pops into mind. However, even though we don't talk about it, wine is used as a social lubricant all the time. Which left us wondering...

With many thanks to our friends at Wine Folly
AMARONE
Last month you may recall me talking about a $58 bottle of Italian Amarone from a well-known commercial producer that I had tasted during a wine-tasting seminar. I had told you that, while it was a "nice" wine, it had no "wow" factor and that I believed our own Cellar Craft Showcase Amarone showed more fruit, more depth and more complexity.
Following that experience, Wendy Smyth, our travelling Sommelier who writes our Wines With Wendy column, did an in-depth tasting of our Premium Cellar Craft Sterling Amarone style, along side our Ultra Premium Cellar Craft Showcase Amarone style.

You really do need to read what Wendy says. It's wines like these that keep our customers coming back again and again. Click here to read Wendy's notes
The air is crisp, the leaves are ready for raking, the squirrels are scurrying to stock their dens, and the Halloween goblins have come and gone. To me, November is always a time for personal restocking to ensure I'm ready for the cold, snowy days ahead. So I've checked that the winter wear is ready to go and that my cellar is well filled for the months ahead. I'd say I'm ready.

How fortunate I was in October to have the opportunity to pick grapes at By Chadsey's Cairns winery in Prince Edward County. And Winemaker Vida welcomed me to the team to help sort the grapes for de-stemming and crushing. (Did you know that if you let a lady bug slip through, the grape must will smell like peanut butter?) I am always awestruck by the fragility and complexity of the winery process and the commitment and passion of the winemakers. Really hard work (but of course I found the après wine and cheese helped a lot).

The Wine Kitz Ottawa Iris team was at the National Women's Show October 24 & 25 where we had the opportunity to showcase a few of our wines and speak with over 700 women about the ease and fun of custom wine making. We love introducing the art of custom wine making to the millennials who are embracing the practice with great enthusiasm.

And this past weekend found me pouring, tasting and schmoozing
at the 30th Anniversary Edition of the National Wine & Food Festival. I always enjoy assisting the National Capital Sommelier Guild with the Tutored Tasting seminars. I even got to taste several delicious offerings from Anna Olson, Canada's most beloved pastry chef, who was one of the Show's star presenters.

Fall is always a busy time at Wine Kitz Ottawa Iris and this year is no exception. Our winery is bustling as our customers get ready for the Christmas season. And, just in case you were wondering, the very last day for starting wine for holiday sharing is November 12.

Cheers!
