WHAT TYPES OF WINEGLASSES DO YOU REALLY NEED?

Surprisingly enough, the type of wineglass you serve your wine in can make a noticeable difference. Different shaped glasses capture different aromas

and flavours as you taste and enjoy your wines.

There are so many different styles and types of glasses on the market that it can be overwhelming trying to figure out what you should keep on hand.

But the folks at Wine Folly are always so good at simplifying complex issues such as this. Here's a mini-tutorial that's sure to make you a pro!

As a practicing Sommelier, I never get tired of tasting wines. In fact I welcome every opportunity to sharpen my skills, and I love it when you bring in one of your favourite commercial wines for me to match.

While upgrading my wine tasting skills at a workshop last week, one of the wines reviewed by the panel was a $58 bottle of Amarone from a well-known Italian producer. It was a nice wine, but it had no "wow" factor, and it didn't even come close to our Cellar Craft Showcase Amarone which shows more fruit, more depth and more complexity after a few months of aging. So why pay $58 for a bottle of okay wine when you can custom make a much better version for far, far less?

I hope you've been following Wines & Vines With Wendy on our website. Last month Wendy posted her tasting notes on our Traditional Vintage Valpolicella, which she rightfully described as a true gem. Take a minute to check out Wendy's column.

This month I'm looking forward to a few days grape picking and assisting with the wine processing at a small winery in Prince Edward County. What a great opportunity for me to experience the entire process from vine to wine. I've got my rubber boots and rain gear ready to go.

There is always lots of activity going on at Wine Kitz Ottawa Iris, especially during the Fall months. We still have a few white wine choices available in our "sale" display, and there are a couple of choice reds from our 2015 Passport Series remaining that won't be around for long.

I hope you have an opportunity to share good stories, good laughs and good wines with friends and family this coming Thanksgiving. There is so much to be thankful for.
