 "Why I Volunteer!"
Lorena Ramirez

Like many of our clients, I have experienced hard times and many challenges in my life.  Because of the help I received from others when I needed it, I have been able to complete my college education.  Now that I am in a position to help others,

it gives me a sense of accomplishment and self-worth.

Lorena is a new volunteer caseworker and has been volunteering at HCCM for three months.

30th Anniversary Celebration &
Volunteer Recognition Event

On September 30, HCCM gathered our community partners and our volunteers for lunch as a final celebration of our 30th anniversary year and to recognize our volunteers.

It was a great event and we owe a big debt of gratitude to our energetic co-chairs, Linda Haywood and Danita Futch with Austin Community College Cypress Creek Campus.  These ladies went above and beyond the call of duty to organize all the logistics for the event, including the festive decorations, the venue and the food.  Box lunches were catered by Jason's Deli and Chick-fil-A Cedar Park donated the beverages along with gift cards for all the volunteers.

As our focus for the event was volunteer service, guest speaker Linda Chandler presented a wonderful message about the "fragrant aroma of service, first to God and then to others."  Chandler is an ordained minister, president of HOST Ministries, a former member president of HCCM Board of Directors and a faithful partner to us for many years.

Honored for outstanding volunteer service were Elaine Hart, Jo Manuel, Donna Meek, Sharon Fitzpatrick, David Huttenmaier, Sherry Moore, Jay Roberts and Marcus Wamble.  Fred Grampp, a 29-year-veteran volunteer at HCCM, received recognition for lifetime achievement.  Gary Anderson with H-E-B, Brad Schaible with Schaible Realty, and The Frank Rhodes Family were honored as outstanding community partners.

We are grateful to our more than 100 volunteers who donate their time and talent to help us serve our community.  May God continue to bless this ministry as we seek to meet our mission as "people of faith, cooperating in the love of Christ and neighbor to help those in need."
Thank You Chick-fil-A Cedar Park!
"Share Your Blessings" Food Drive
The good folks at Chick-fil-A Cedar Park hosted a food drive during the month of October and collected 700 pounds of nonperishable food items for our Food Pantry.  Restaurant patrons who donated two or more nonperishable food items received their choice of a free Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich or a Chick-fil-A Chicken Biscuit. Thank you Chick-fil-A for this outstanding effort.

4th Annual Golf Tournament

H-E-B Million Dollar Charity Shoot Out

The annual golf tournament organized by Brad Schaible was moved up a month this year to November 3.  Seventy-five golfers came out to play at Twin Creeks Country Club and we can't say "thank you" enough to Schaible, his staff and family, and the planning committee for their hard work and commitment to this event.  Our thanks also go to H-E-B, our generous title sponsor and partner, the players, and all the other sponsors and donors who help make the event a great success.  All proceeds are donated to Hill Country Community Ministries.  Final numbers for the 2014 event will be announced soon.

Holiday Turkey Project 2014
There's Still Time to Help

Turkey Resized

The annual Holiday Turkey Project is well under way and there is still time to help HCCM raise funds to provide turkeys and all the "fixin's" for 500 client families this Thanksgiving and Christmas season.  We haven't reached our goal yet and we need your help.  For complete information, check out the flier and share it with your friends and family.

Follow the Star

December 4, 5 & 6

The third annual Follow the Star event, produced by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, is scheduled for December 4, 5 and 6.  The event is an outdoor drive-through and walk-through production featuring 10 pivotal scenes which follow the life of Christ from birth to resurrection.  Professional sound, lighting and approximately 250 cast and crew members make this a spectacular production.

Follow the Star is free and open to the public.  Attendees are asked to bring nonperishable food items to be donated to HCCM Food Pantry.  All food and monetary donations benefit HCCM.  For more information, go to the event website at www.FollowTheStarTexas.com.

Give the Gift of Hope

This Christmas season remember friends and business associates with a "gift of hope" for families in crisis, families who struggle to put food on the table and pay for the basic necessities that most of us take for granted.  Honor your friends, family and business associates with a donation to Hill Country Community Ministries.  For a donation of $10 you will receive a 5"x7" card (and envelope) to acknowledge your donation to HCCM and honor your card recipient.  See the flier for details.
Two Retailers Donate to Shoppers' Charity of Choice

We have two opportunities for you to consider when shopping online at Amazon.com and when shopping at your neighborhood Randalls.

AmazonSmile Program

When you shop through the AmazonSmile program, Amazon.com will donate 0.5% of the purchase price of your order to a charity of your choice.  Bookmark the link http://smile.amazon.com/ch/74-2309435 and use it whenever your shop at Amazon.com.  We are registered with them and you will support HCCM every time you shop through this program!  For details about the program, you can go to the Amazon.com website.

Attention Randalls Shoppers!

Randalls is a partner with HCCM through their Good Neighbor Program.  To qualify for HCCM to receive donations from Randalls, you must fill out a form to designate HCCM as your charity recipient.  We will receive 1% of your total purchases, excluding pharmacy, fuel, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products.  Use this link http://www.randalls.com/ShopStores/Good-Neighbor.page.  Once on the Good Neighbor page, click inside the blue box where it says, "Click here for a Good Neighbor Program link form."  Print the form and fill it out using HCCM's Good Neighbor Program #279.  Then drop off the card at the courtesy booth at your local Randalls.  Once you do that, every time you shop HCCM will benefit!  (By way of clarification, this is not the Randalls Community Bucks program which runs only in September of each year.)

Holiday Closure

HCCM will be closed for Thanksgiving Wednesday, November 26 through Friday November 28.  We are closed for Christmas break Wednesday, December 24 through Thursday, January 1.
