Addressing Network Members at 2016 Encore Conference

Last month I had the pleasure of attending the Encore Conference in San Francisco.  This is a gathering of organizational leaders in the field of positive aging.  TTN came on the scene in 2000 when there weren't very many entities focused on supporting the generation of "baby boomers" poised to have an impact as encore seekers.  In the past 16 years, an entire industry as grown up around us.

As a member of the Encore Network, we have access to the best thinkers in the business.  The conference showcased ideas to move our missions forward.  One of the sessions I attended was on marketing - how do we reach our target member who may not even know she's in transition.  I learned that the old ways of promoting our organization and the services we offer are exactly that - old.  Press releases are left unread.  The 'go-between media' is inundated with news that never sees the light of day.  The disbursement of information across millions of platforms makes it impossible, especially with our limited resources, to know exactly where our prospective members go to learn about this stage of life.  The Internet and social media are the waves of the future.

So in the spirit of always moving forward and stepping into the 22nd century, I invite you to LIKE us on Like us on Facebook and FOLLOW us on Follow us on Twitter .  These platforms, along with our website, are where we share news about TTN, information you need to "age gracefully" as Charlotte put it, and events and activities in your local chapter.  If you're not on Facebook and Twitter yet, sign up.  And get your friends to sign up and join us too.  That's how we will grow our membership, deepen our member experience and build a stronger TTN.

Welcome Billings!
At last night's Board of Directors meeting, the members voted unanimously to name Billings, Montana as the 13th chapter of The Transition Network.

Evelyn Noennig assembled an amazing leadership team and together they brought TTN to the women of their town.  They organized programs and social events, started Transition Peer Groups and Special Interest Groups and reached out to their community to participate.  They brought in 66 new members and have a growing list of contacts which ensures that it will continue to grow.

On April 22, Jean Palmer and I will travel to Montana.  Jean will facilitate our Signature Program Women in Transition Workshop and on the 23rd, we will celebrate the official launch of this new chapter.

I hope you will join me and the Board of Directors in welcoming Billings and their leadership team as our "lucky 13th" chapter.  Congratulations!
Celebrating 10 Years!
Four of our chapters are celebrating their 10 year anniversaries this year.  Chicago, Long Island, San Francisco and Washington, DC all became official chapters in 2006 and they are celebrating!

Yesterday, I was thrilled to attend a Pot Luck event with over 40 of our members in Washington DC;  San Francisco is organizing a party and a movie on April 17.  Long Island intends to host a celebratory luncheon on June 14 and Chicago has plans in the works for later in the year.

Chapters are created when women in a local community decide to devote their time and experience to forming a community that focuses on our mission of transition support.  It's because of this grass-roots commitment that we are able to take our message across the country.

Thank you to all the Founders of these chapters, and to our current leaders who continue to serve our members by planning programs and events, organizing transition peer groups and encouraging members to start special interest groups.  As one of our Board members put it - members join for the learning and stay for the community.  What a legacy!
TTN Signature Programs are a Hit!
The development of TTN Signature Programs is sweeping the country and not just in our chapters!

Since the launch in late 2015, we have delivered our Women in Transition Workshop to over 150 women in Washington, DC, Central Ohio, Chicago, New York, Long Island, Philadelphia, South Florida, Boston and Santa Fe chapters.  And we are currently making plans to go to Billings and San Francisco later this year.

In addition to helping our members and guests work through the mechanics of being in transition, Barbara Beizer and Peggy Conner will be facilitating a shortened version to (a "mini-WIT Workshop") at the upcoming ASA Conference in Washington, DC. and we hope to do the same at the Positive Aging Conference in August.

One of our most exciting opportunities will be in April when TTN has been "hired" by the Hudson Valley Forum for the Professional and Economic Development of Women to deliver the full 4-hour workshop.  Joanne Harpel and Karen Merson will facilitate.

If you would like to schedule a Women in Transition Workshop in your chapter, please contact the National Office.  We will coordinate with the lead facilitators to bring this wonderful program to the women in your area.
