September 2015

A warm welcome to the start of our Fall season lineup of programs and activities! I hope to see many of you at our upcoming events.

I would like to know how we can exceed your expectations. What's the most valuable aspect of TTN for you? In your opinion, what are the Philadelphia Chapter's strengths? How could we become even stronger in serving our members?

Please take a moment and send me an email with your candid thoughts: [email protected]

I look forward to hearing from you. Happy Fall!

Warm regards,

Announcing the Next Women in Transition Workshop
Are you contemplating changes in your lifestyle or social network?

Do you want to learn more about what steps you can take to make your transitions go more smoothly?

Then block your calendars to attend the next Women in Transition Workshop, a core TTN Signature Program, offered in the Philadelphia area on November 20th, from 8:30am to 1:00pm.

The goals of this workshop are to:
  • Engage and connect with other women in transition
  • Learn what it means to be in transition
  • Expand your possibilities and options
  • Know what is important and energizing for you, and
  • Create a "next steps" action plan.
This workshop will be facilitated by local TTN members Chrissa Merron and Beth Weinstock. Prospective TTN members may also attend.  Please contact Chrissa at [email protected] for more information.

Space is limited. Register here
Are you going to the Fall Member Mingle?
Fall is here and our first Member Mingle of the season is set for Wednesday October 14th at the Ritz-Carlton on Broad Street in Center City.

Looking for an event to bring a friend or colleague to introduce them to TTN?  This is it!!

If you are a new member, it's a wonderful way to meet other members in a relaxed setting.

If you're thinking about joining TTN, the Member Mingle is a time to ask questions and learn more about TTN.

If you've been a member for a while, it's a great time to reconnect after the summer.

The drinks and food are "Happy Hour" prices.  There is no other charge but space is limited, so register early.  Hope to see you there!

Don't Let A Transition Hijack Your Self-Confidence
Beth Weinstock, Psychologist & Leadership Coach
Editor's Note:  The following article was contributed by Beth Weinstock, a TTN Philadelphia Chapter member.  We hope to feature Transition articles each month which provide new insights, inspiration and support.

I joined TTN many years ago in order to expand my network of dynamic women and have been impressed with the members I have met and the activities that have been both created and supported.  In my personal social life, and in my clinical work as a psychologist, I often suggest to others that they join TTN.  I know that moving past 50 can be exciting, but also very unsettling. Transitions are always fertile ground for our inner critic to send messages of self-doubt and worry, and having a community of supportive women can make all the difference.

Earlier this year, I had the privilege along with Chrissa Merron and Tess Waldman to support the first Philadelphia Women in Transition (WIT) workshop. One of the themes I heard over and over again at the WIT workshop was a sense of relief once folks realized they are not alone in their fear and insecurity during times of transition. Clearly, whether  one is transitioning to part time work after a life of full time employment, or into empty nesting, or dealing with a spouse who is retiring, it was reassuring to learn that others were feeling the same imbalance and the desire to find a new solid  ground.

Another theme was the insecurity created by the voice of the persistent Inner Critic. As a clinician and leadership coach, I hear this all the time, particularly from women. We can be very hard on ourselves. Certainly I have been.

Eight Ways to Boost Your TTN Membership Value
We own this graphic
Becoming actively engaged in TTN can be easily designed to fit your interests, available time, and the kind of tasks you wish to help with.

You get to meet new people, find new activities that give meaning to you, learn new skills, and enjoy the satisfaction of giving back to the organization that gives so much to its members. You get an insider's view of of the organization and how and where you can plug in. Even better, this is a way to experiment beyond your comfort zone without the job pressures of your professional life.

Here are just 8 ways you can become more active and engaged in TTN:
  • Be part of a committee that plans and organizes an Event.  You can serve as the event contact/host or play as assist role, helping staff the registration desk, be a greeter or answer questions from new members.

  • Volunteer to be a New Member Welcome Ambassador.

  • Recommend a new SIG, help launch it and become the SIG leader.

  • Take photos at TTN events; work with Communications team to post to website and social media.

  • Be a roving reporter and capture event/program highlights and member spotlights for future newsletter articles.

  • Step up to research and present a new topic for your Peer Group and facilitate the discussion.  Or join the Advisory Committee to provide Peer Group support.

  • Work with Community Impact Committee to help plan volunteer work projects, participate and recruit TTN volunteers, identify additional nonprofits to work with.

  • Join a TTN Committee, get exposure to the entire organization and work on projects to benefit our chapter.
Giving back can be a rewarding experience, providing a sense of belonging and fulfillment. Perhaps now the time is right for you to "lean in" and add your talents and voice to the vitality and strength of our Philadelphia TTN Chapter.

Please contact Chrissa Merron at [email protected] to explore the range of options that match your needs and interests.

We've got you covered with SIGs including book clubs, cooking and eating foodie groups, visual and performing arts, hobbies and crafts, health and fitness, travel, relationships and more!  SIGs are unique as they allow you to meet regularly with the same small group of TTN women, building friendships and new learning along the way.
