Mother's Day Specials
And a Word About the Business
By Josh
With Mother's Day coming up, many people do not realize that this is "one of those days" for people in the restaurant industry. Around here we always make the joke that New Year's Eve is the Superbowl for us. In other words, we are extremely busy with the amount of people coming in and out for dinner all night long. In comparison, Mother's Day is the World Series. Many people do not realize that Mother's Day is one of the busiest days of the year for us behind Easter and Valentine's Day. According to the National Restaurant Association, almost 80 million Americans will go out to eat at restaurants this Sunday alone. The survey shows that 8 out of every 10 consumers believe that going out to a restaurant is better leisure time than cooking a large meal and cleaning it up, which is especially true on special occasions. The thought of not having to cook and clean is one that relieves the stress of making big plans for this special day and allowing you to spend more time with Mom. Even while 80 million people plan to go out to eat with their mothers, this survey also details that almost 7 percent of the population will order takeout or delivery to replace a home cooked meal.

Inside Out Grilled Cheese
By Ryan
Everyone loves grilled cheese sandwiches, right? So easy, so good! We put a twist on our version of the grilled cheese sandwich and it is to die for.
Instead of your traditional melted cheese between the bread, we grill del caribe cheese, top it with spicy caramelized red onion raspberry jam, then toast pan bigio bread and top that with more grilled del caribe cheese. It is then topped with yet another layer of spicy caramelized red onion raspberry jam.
Thus, the "inside out" grilled cheese. While the traditional grilled cheese sandwich may be a symbol of your childhood... this one was made for adults.
Blog with us........What other childhood favorites would you like to see "reimagined" for adulthood?

Playlist Theater
Last Chance Iguanas Tickets
By Brianne
We've got one final pre-summer show coming up next week with The Iguanas, and then it's a good several months until you'll get to savor the sounds in our Playlist Theater again. Unless Ray decides to sneak in a fan-favorite sometime between now and September, we suggest you get your hands on the last of The Iguanas tickets.
The Iguanas are a New Orleans based Roots Rock Band formed in 1989. Their sound has been described as combining Chicano rock, R&B, Conjunto and various Latin styles into a deep groove. Their 2012 album "Sin to Sin" is described as "upbeat" with "elements of jazz and Beat poetry that were new for the band" while combining "the band's original garage-Latin sound."
There are about 10 tickets left for our Wednesday, May 15th show, and at $20 a piece, we're sure they'll go fast! Matter of fact, our Griffin House show in September is nearly sold out as well! Check out our full listing of upcoming Playlist Theater shows below.

Around the Industry
"Bee-mageddon"
By Jimmy
Not many people like em' and a lot of people are allergic to them, but boy do we depend on them. I am talking about the honey bee. I recently came across an article that explains the possible collapse of the $30 billion a year U.S honey bee industry. This will mean much more to our food industry than just honey alone. Many of you may not know but these bees are responsible for the pollination of many of our nation's crops. From apples to zucchini, pollination is crucial, and we need these buzzing transporters to help our country produce the food we consume.
According to scientists, they are continuing to struggle to find the cause of the CCD or Colony Collapse Disorder that is involved with the honey bee. It is spreading at a rapid pace and is causing quite a bit of concern. One analysis can be traced to the chemical neonicotnoids... others cite parasites or poor nutrition. Whatever it is, it is being considering an all out "bee-mageddon." It has already destroyed millions of hives over the course of the last 5+ years. The last two being the worst. A 30% death rate in the bees can be worth more than $2 billion to our economy. Back in the 1940s there were 6 million colonies in the our country. Now we are down to less than 2.5 million. It not only affects the honey we take for granted from their combs, but their pollination is required by numerous crops.
One example that the article goes into detail about is the almond. Apparently you can not grow this nut without honey bees, and the state of California actually accounts for 80% of the world's almonds harvest. 40% of the 2.5 million bee hives out there are required to pollinate these almonds alone. This could be a food disaster if the supplies continue to deplete, and not just involving the almond. Many nuts, berries and other crops will feel the affect. There have been efforts to breed better bees to handle the causes of CCD but there are still no concrete results. This reduction of the honey bee supply puts us yet in another dilemma that will affect us all.
