New Show Announcement
Loudon Wainwright III
By Ray
Two weeks in a row I get to announce a new show. This one, however, is a little bigger than most... if not the biggest show we will have done to date. On Friday, February 1st we will be hosting an evening with Loudon Wainright III.
Loudon is one of my all-time personal favorites. If there was ever a more witty songwriter, I really do not know who it would be. I have seen him several times and can tell you, you will laugh, sometimes uncontrollably, but what really grabs me during his shows is the way he captures life, real life. If you do not own any Loudon Wainwright III, there are many CD's I can recommend. "Last Man on Earth" and "Older Than MY Old Man Now" ...both are classics that need to be in every aficionado's library.
Whenever I have seen Loudon it has been in a much, much larger venue than ours. He has a very diverse career with 25 albums, a Grammy winner, has appeared in numerous films, and even 3 appearances on the M*A*S*H TV show in 1975 as Capt. Calvin Spaulding, the singing surgeon. I can not tell you how excited I am that he is playing here. It will be a seated show; Loudon will be performing solo. Tickets are $30, and it will start at 7:30. Tickets will go on sale the evening of the David Olney & Sergio Webb show - Saturday, November 10th. Anyone at that show will get first crack at the tickets.
Please do not miss him. Right here in La Salle.

On Special
Stone Crab Claws
By Josh
For a limited time only, the Uptown will be offering Stone Crab Claws. Considered a delicacy compared to other seafood, laws dictate that Stone Crab claws can only be harvested from October 15 through May 15, making it extremely difficult for restaurants to obtain for their menu. Stone Crab has the ability to regrow its claw after it has been detached from the body. Because of this, law also dictates that fisheries harvesting these crabs are only allowed to remove one claw at a time, releasing them back into the ocean for at least one full year before harvesting again. These laws allow for a more eco-friendly approach to harvesting and allows for a nearly endless supply of crabs without endangering the species.
Sought after for it's light and flaky, sweet meat, this delicacy is favored by being cooked and quickly chilled before serving. Here at the Uptown we try to keep with this idea so that our customers, who may not have access to these items as easily as we do, can enjoy something that is typically not seen in our area. Sticking true to tradition but adding a slight Uptown twist, we are serving Stone Crab Claw Cocktail which is chilled and served with our housemade mustard sauce and fresh lemon.

Downtown LaSalle
Halloween Fun
By Ryan
Downtown LaSalle will be hosting its annual Hometown Halloween this Saturday, October 27th. The festivities will begin at 11 a.m. in the Knights of Columbus parking lot at 209 Gooding Street with a costume parade and judging. The judging will begin at 11:30 a.m. Prizes will be given out for children ages one month thru eighth grade. The NewsTribune, our local newspaper, will be taking photos of those children dressed in costume between 11am and Noon. The photos taken will appear in next week's newspaper.
Perhaps the best part of all the Halloween fun will be the trick-or-treating that will begin at Noon. Downtown LaSalle will have 41 businesses taking part in the trick-or-treating festivities. Make sure to hit them all. Just look for the big orange pumpkin in the window to distinguish which business are taking part in the fun. Also, be sure to stop by Luscious Moi because you won't want to miss what they put together for Halloween. Last year, they had Fairy dust falling from their roof, Fairies on their roof, a King, & Court Jesters. Owner Neil Pleskovitch goes all out and it's a must stop!
The fun doesn't stop there. If you are a pet lover, Fetching Freida's will host a dog costume judging at 1pm. And for those that enjoy scary stories, be sure to stop by the Carus Mansion as there will be ghost stories told inside the mansion for a spooky Halloween treat. Sessions for ghost story telling are at 6pm and 8pm.
