Thank you to all who joined us for the 2nd annual Mansfield ISD Multicultural Festival on Saturday, March 1 at the MISD Center for the Performing Arts.

Once again, thousands of attendees enjoyed a wide array of free activities, games, food, student showcases, performances, and more. We had a steady flow of people all day long.

Attendance Zone Review An Attendance Zone Review for Mansfield ISD intermediate, middle and high schools began in February in response to the annual demographic report presented during the December School Board meeting.

The review addresses projected future growth, campus overcrowding and the effective use of our buildings.

District Calendar Calendar Update
Communications

On Tuesday, February 25, the MISD School Board approved a calendar change for the current school year. Here are the major changes you need to know:

  • Thursday, April 17 is now Bad Weather Makeup Day #2 and is a regular school day.
  • Friday, June 6 is now Early Release/Staff Development Day #4
  • Summit High School graduation moves to 3:00 p.m. on June 6.  
  • Mansfield High School graduation moves to 8:00 p.m. on June 6
  • Download/print an updated 2013-14 District Calendar.

Mary Orr Intermediate Students open HALO House - community service project organized by teachers and students

National Merit Scholarship Finalists Announced - Two Summit High School students have advanced to the finalists round in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Teams place at Destination Imagination regional contest - MISD teams recently competed and placed in the Destination Imagination regional contest. An Elizabeth Smith Elementary team advances to state.

The Ron Whitson Agricultural Science Center is named in honor of a longtime Mansfield ISD educator.

Mary Orr Intermediate and Danny Jones Middle have won the district trophies for Academic UIL Meet for Intermediate/Middle Schools three years in a row.

 

Ben Barber Career and Technology Academy Showcase Night Tuesday, March 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.   

 

Linda Jobe Middle School held a welcome home celebration for Air Force Sgt. and coach, Troy Harvey, back from military deployment. [Related media coverage here, here, here, and here.]

High school students advance to state visual art event - 18 high school students advanced to the annual state Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) following a local show.

Asa Low 5th Grader Wins District Spelling Bee - 34 students participated in the 2014 District Spelling Bee on February 14

Latin language students win big at Area contest - Mansfield ISD Latin students competed and won numerous awards at the Texas State Junior Classical League Area C Latin Competition. 

Brooke Nelson, a 7th grader from Brooks Wester Middle School, was a featured artist for local comic book publishing company at the Dallas Comic Con Sci Fi Expo.

Rising Stars Discovery Camp is a fun, exciting introduction to just a few of the unique courses offered at Ben Barber Career and Technology Academy. Registration opens March 17.
Kindergarten Roundup
Don't miss this opportunity to get a jump start on next year!

Complete your child's pre-k and/or kindergarten enrollment and registration process for the 2014-15 school year during Kindergarten Roundup on Tuesday, April 15. Incoming kindergarten families will get valuable information on immunizations, nutrition, as well as tips and tools to prepare students before kindergarten starts.   


This year, the Roundup will be held at your home elementary campus and has been divided into two time blocks:
  • 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
  • 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Stomp Wars @MISDCenter - March 29

Rock-T Youth Foundation presents Stomp Wars at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the MISD Center for the Performing Arts. The Linda Jobe Middle School Step Team will compete in this event, the largest teen step competition in the nation.
Transfers Deadline April 1
Student Services and Campus Support

 

Transfer requests for the upcoming school year must be received no later than April 1st.

 

An approved transfer shall remain in effect for all grade levels at the 2013-2014 approved campus, provided that:  

  • the permanent place of residence of the parent or legal guardian is maintained within the District; OR   
  • the district employee maintains their employment in MISD; AND 
  • all information provided at the time of the transfer request remains accurate.

A student under this provision shall be considered a transfer student and shall be subject to revocation for any reasons listed in this policy,
