Savvy's Bistro

Est. in 2006, MISD's student-run restaurant, Savvy's Bistro, opened its fall season this week inside Ben Barber Career Tech Academy/Frontier High School. The restaurant is managed by the school's culinary arts program students. Savvy's is open to the public Tuesday-Thursday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. 1120 W. Debbie Lane, Mansfield, TX, 76063. October Parent-Teacher Conferences Curriculum & Instruction
In early October, Mansfield ISD parents will once again have an opportunity to meet with their student's teachers during the district-wide conference times. Campuses have set aside time to invite parents to the school to discuss how things are going this year in the classroom. Please check with your school(s) for specific conference schedule times.
- Thursday, October 10 - Evening conference times available after regular school day.
- Friday, October 11 - Student Holiday & Parent/Teacher Conference opportunity times in the morning. (Teachers are off in the afternoon.)

Australian Secondary Principal of the Year Tours Mansfield High School
Mansfield High School hosted the 2012 Australian Secondary Principal of the Year, Mrs. Shayne Player, on Wednesday, September 18. Mrs. Player is the Principal of the Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College, Tumbi Umbi Campus.
As a prize for being named the Australian Secondary Principal of the Year, Mrs. Player was granted time for a trip around the world for a Professional Learning Sabbatical to visit schools in order to study common principles in high-performing schools.

 Mansfield High School Golfer to Play in Nature Valley First Tee Open, Official Champions Tour Event at Pebble Beach Nicholas Narcisse, a junior at Mansfield High School, is among four local teens to compete in the 2013 Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, an official Champions Tour event September 27-29, and televised internationally on Golf Channel. The teens are being sent by First Tee of Fort Worth. ---

Timberview High School DBs selected for All-American Bowl Congratulations to seniors Ed Paris and Brandon Simmons, Timberview varsity football defensive backs, for being selected for the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. This prestigious bowl game takes place at the San Antonio Alamodome on January 4 and will be televised on NBC.
On Thursday, September 26, Paris and Simmons received their jerseys during a special afternoon ceremony at the campus.

2013-14 Handbooks Updated Student Services & Campus Support
During the September School Board Meeting, Trustees approved the updates to the student handbooks. The updates addressed a few changes: Tardies (left out of the original document); student ID's (left out of High School); and 2013-14 Exam Exemption (for High School). The Exam Exemption update changed the number of excused absences, which was upped from one (1) to two (2) prior to the days of exams. Student Handbooks are available on the district website and from each campus website (under QuickLinks). |
Library Learning Commons Extended Hours
The Mansfield ISD Library Learning Commons at Legacy HS, Lake Ridge HS and Timberview HS now have extended hours on the following days when school is in session. Students must present a current MISD ID card to enter the library:
- Legacy HS - Mondays, 3:30-6:30 p.m.
- Lake Ridge HS - Tuesdays, 3:30-6:30 p.m.
- Timberview HS - Wednesdays and Thursdays, 3:30-6:30 p.m.

2013-14 Early Release Days Schedule Curriculum & Instruction
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction announced the school start and end times for each level on the four early release dates in 2013-14. The first of four early release days is Friday, November 15, 2013. The calendar includes four days with early dismissals for students so that campuses can hold teacher professional development.Get the full schedule of start and end times for the four early release days. |

Education Foundation: 'We Can Choose' mini-grant program helps directly fund programs and projects in the classroom.
State Rep. Chris Turner hosts "Paying for College Seminar" 6-7:30 pm on Wednesday, October 2, at Seguin High School Cafeteria (in Arlington ISD).
Danny Jones Middle School: "No Labels No Limits" 5K/1Mile benefiting the DJMS Rachel's Challenge is Saturday, October 5 at 8:30 a.m.
Timberview High School: Fall Art Camp is Saturday, October 19 from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm for students in grades K-6. The cost for the day is $35.
College and Career Night is Wednesday, November 6, at MISD Center for the Performing Arts from 6:00-8:30 pm.
Summit High School: Band Boosters Craft Fest - 9:00 am - 4:00 pm on Saturday, November 9.
Education in Action's 2013-2014 Call for Outstanding Student Nominations: Nominate your outstanding 4th-8th graders to join delegations of distinguished students at the Lone Star Leadership Academy, a week long, TEKS-based, experiential leadership development program to Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin/San Antonio, or Houston/Galveston during spring break or summer.
