Welcome

Greetings!

Last month I shared with you about the Women & Wealth workshop I'm going to be doing in 2013. The first one is on March 19 in Duxbury and we'd love to see you there.

In preparation for designing and leading workshops, I spent the first week of February attending a fabulous seminar at Kripalu with Ken Nelson & Lesli Lang learning to Create Transformational Workshops through Mind Body Experiences.

Wow! What a fabulous investment in our practice and in myself. It was contemplative week at Kripalu (no talking in the public areas or the dining hall) which intensified the overall visit. The energy and experiences shared during this workshop was really special. I can't wait to share it with you.

It was also interesting to transition back to "reality" with two back-to-back significant weekend snow storms which helped me to keep the peace & tranquility acquired during my workshop week, especially during the 72 hours without power we had.

If you are here in New England, we hope you are enjoying the snow. Hey, if it's going to be winter, it might as well snow!

Namaste,

The American Taxpayer Relief Act

Some of you may remember the Dudley Do-Right cartoon. Dudley Do-Right was the champion of the oppressed. He was the dim-witted, though conscientious and cheerful, Canadian Mountie who always dramatically saved his best girl, Nell, from oncoming mayhem inflicted by his archenemy, Snidely Whiplash. By pure dumb luck, Dudley always saved the day at the last second. It kind of reminds me of the fiscal cliff, Congress, the president and the last-minute deal called The American Taxpayer Relief Act.

The act addressed the expiration of the "Bush" tax cuts. Essentially, the act focuses on the tax revenue side of a congressional deficit-reduction plan. That plan was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama Jan. 2 of this year.

Estate planning: name your beneficiaries

The new year is a great time to check in and update your estate plan. These are very important documents that will direct your loved ones and the legal system about your end-of-life decisions or directives: power of attorney if you are incapacitated, who will take care of any minor children and what to do with your financial assets.

21 ways rich people think differently

Steve Siebold, author of "How Rich People Think," spent nearly three decades interviewing millionaires around the world to find out what separates them from everyone else.

It had little to do with money itself. It was about their mentality.

Saving to keep up with the Joneses

By now we all know that saving for retirement should be a priority. But most of us are still stumbling around in the dark, not saving enough or unsure of even how much we should be saving, according to a recent survey of investors by T. Rowe Price.

Would it help if we knew how much our neighbors or co-workers were squirreling away? More specifically, if we knew they were out-saving us, would we boost our savings rates to keep up with the Joneses?

How to get to retirement? Practice!

More than half of us won't have enough money to maintain our living standards in retirement-even if we work to age 65, about two years past the average retirement age, according to various estimates. No wonder more people are working into their golden years, or planning to do so.

But here's the good news: Working longer allows you to start playing sooner
