Letter From The President

By Laurie L. Strehl, CSCP

Welcome to first Princeton South Jersey APICS Chapter Newsletter of 2013/2014 Calendar Year.  We hope that you will find great value in your interactions with our Chapter this year.  We are kicking off the year with two Professional Development Meetings in the month of September.  On September 11 at Charlie Brown's in Woodbury, New Jersey, we are excited to host Rowan University Students Chelsea Pacilio, Courtney Price and Jonathan Frias.  On September 18, the topic will be an Interactive Demo of a Sales and Operations Planning Meeting at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Monroe, NJ.  Your Chapter again is offering a broad set of classes for certification and knowledge enhancement.  Please see our website for our fall offerings

The Princeton South Jersey Chapter has once again earned the right to be called a Platinum Chapter.  For those new to APICS this is the highest level of recognition a chapter can receive.  Your chapter has been recognized as a Platinum Chapter for 8 consecutive years.  To earn the Platinum level the chapter needs to earn enough points each year to reach Gold.  A Chapter needs to have five consecutive years as Gold to receive Platinum.

Renewing your Certifications

If you worked hard to achieve CSCP or CPRM certification be sure to maintain your certification.  Every 5 years you must earn 75 points, submit documentation to APICS and pay a $75 application fee.  Points are earned by all of the following activities:

  • Continuing Education
  • Presentations, publications, and educational development
  • Service to the supply chain and operations management profession
  • Professional membership in APICS or other operations management related national or international organization

Link to the APICS website to download the APICS Certification Maintenance Bulletin for full information.

Words from our Executive Vice President
By James Masotti

Hello APICS Princeton/South Jersey Members and Friends,

Welcome to our 2013/2014 program year. It is my privilege to have the opportunity to serve you as executive vice president this year. I am looking forward to seeing many old friends again and making new friends in this program year. We are looking forward to helping you grow your skills, knowledge, and network. A few things that you have to look forward to this year include:

An increased focus on our student/university relationships

  • The return of the company coordinators program
    • Certification maintenance points are awarded for involvement, so please contact VP of Marketing, Dennis Moore (dennis.moore@okidata.com) if you are interested in representing your company
  • Joint professional development meeting(s) with other professional organizations
  • Plant tour(s)
  • A new schedule of professional development meetings
  • Continue to offer high quality educational programs

Of these many great endeavors I must say that I am most excited and passionate about our increased engagement with the students and universities.  To kick off the year, our first South Jersey professional development meeting on September 11, will feature 3 student speakers from Rowan University.  I hope many of you will be able to join us for this event to show your support for the students and help them grow and develop outside of the classroom.  Additionally, all four of the New Jersey APICS chapters will also be represented at the Rutgers University Supply Chain Meet and Greet in September.  Through increased visibility of our events with the universities' professors we are also hoping to have some more student participation in our regular monthly professional development meetings.  I hope you will all take the opportunity to help support the supply chain students in our area.  I also encourage you to challenge yourselves to find opportunities where you too can learn from these emerging supply chain professionals as well.  They have a lot of energy and ideas, so you never know what you might take away from them!

Lastly I would like to close and say that if there is any way that I can be of any service to you or your company, please do not hesitate to reach out to me (james.masotti@apics-prsj.org).  I cannot wait to see you all have a phenomenally successful year!

Fall '13 Certification Classes at PRSJ

Earning your APICS Certification has never been easier with this Fall's Princeton South Jersey traditional classroom education schedule.  All of our programs are spread over two centralized locations.  See our website at http://www.apics-prsj.org/Education.html

The Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) APICS certification starts with the Basics of Supply Chain Management (BSCM) module as the first of five courses required to complete the program.  PRSJ BSCM classes are scheduled for September 26th in East Windsor, NJ.  Another module, Execution and Control of Operations begins September 17th in Mt. Laurel.  Each of the five CPIM courses is followed by its own computerized exam.  Registration is at the link: http://www.apics-prsj.org/Education.html.  See this link for June classes as well.

Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) classes are in progress now and the next classes are scheduled to begin on September 5th in East Windsor (Cranbury office), and September 4th in Mt. Laurel, with the exam window set for November 30th to January 11th.  Only one exam is needed to become CSCP Certified.  Registration is also at the link:

http://www.apics-prsj.org/Education.html.

Princeton South Jersey has a long history of providing education and certification preparation to its chapter members and any interested individual or group. Only APICS qualified instructors will provide day and evening classes, corporate class settings, or in-house custom programs. Over 220 individuals have completed PRSJ classes in the last six years alone! Our programs have been continuously active since 1999, with newly certified members going on to higher levels of professional development and career advancement.

Unemployed today?  Let PRSJ educate you for free! Become a member, purchase a Participant Workbook, and your tuition is free.  We'll also provide you with professional networking opportunities once a week in class and as often as twice a month at our Professional Development dinner meetings.  See our website for details and I hope to see you in class!   For dates and times, and to register click this link: http://www.apics-prsj.org/Education.html

Membership - September 2013

By Bryan Warshofsky, CPIM

Vice President of Membership

APICS CERTIFCATION and CERTIFICATION MAINTENANCE

As we begin our 2013/2014 chapter year, our membership represents more than 50 companies in the Central and South Jersey region, and is composed from more than 200 supply chain and operations management professionals.

While there are numerous opportunities and benefits of being a member of PRSJ, one of the most prevalent is the APICS Certifications. As most of you are aware, CPIM (Certification in Production and Inventory Management) is attained through completion of 5 exams.   CFPIM (Certified Fellow in Production and Inventory Management) designation is attained through sharing your professional knowledge through presenting, publishing, teaching and participating in other professional development activities, once you have been certified in CPIM. And CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) is achieved by successfully passing an exam. These are recognized as valuable certifications by employers and have provided many APICS members with skills and knowledge that they need to be successful in their careers.   Our chapter conducts classes which will aid you in passing your certification exams.

Once certification is achieved, APICS requires certification maintenance every 5 years. This is to ensure that members keep up to date on industry topics and continue to be educated in the field of operations management.   Annual membership in APICS earns points toward your certification maintenance. So when you receive my email reminder to renew your annual membership, remember that this is not only to keep you active with the chapter, it will also keep you working towards your certification maintenance.

Additional points towards certification maintenance can also be earned in many other ways including:

-          Attending PDMs

-          Attending APICS National Conference or Seminars

-          Continuing Education through courses, workshops or home study

-          Presentations and publications

-          Membership in other professional organizations

-          Participation on the chapter or district boards

This link will bring you to the APICS website with additional information about Certification Maintenance http://www.apics.org/careers-education-professional-development/certification/maintenance   The chapter is always anxious work with members to keep them active, involved and getting the value that they expect out of their association with APICS and PRSJ.
