A NOTE FROM DR. BEEKLEY

At Chester Elementary School, our most important job is to keep our students safe. On a day to be determined later this month, we will have what is popularly termed a "lockdown" to familiarize our students with the procedures. We are required to practice a crisis response drill (lockdown drill) in place of a fire drill every 3 months. We will have the Resident State Trooper and other law enforcement officials observing the drill to provide feedback and suggestions that will improve our practice.

Considering that this will be our first lockdown drill of the year, teachers will be reviewing our plan with students and letting them know what to do in the event students are not in their classroom when the drill begins. The teachers will be reassuring our students that this is only a drill. While the drill is in progress, no one will be able to enter the building and you may have difficulty reaching our secretaries, but this should only be a short inconvenience.

If you have any questions regarding our procedures, please feel free to contact me at jbeekley@reg4.k12.ct.us or 860-526-5797.

Joanne D. Beekley, Ed.D.
Principal

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT BOOKS AVAILABLE FROM CES LIBRARY

Our Social Development theme of the month for November is Charity.  There are many excellent books in our library about charity and generosity.  A few will be featured each week and any may be borrowed from the library to be shared with your family.  Just email bmoshier@reg4.k12.ct.us to request the book and she will send it home with your child.

Beatrice's Goat by Page McBrier

A young girl's dream of attending school in her small Ugandan village is fulfilled after her family is given an income-producing goat. Based on a true story about the work of Project Heifer.

Boxes for Katje by Candace Fleming

After a young Dutch girl writes to her new American friend in thanks for the care package sent after World War II, she begins to receive increasingly larger boxes.

DRESSING FOR THE WEATHER

With temperatures varying each day, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. Layers are suggested for this time of year as it is cold in the morning and much warmer in the afternoon. We will continue to go out for both morning and afternoon recess if the temperature is above 20 degrees and not raining. Thank you for your cooperation!
