 Members,

This unseasonably cold weather seems to not want to go away, but our summer fun, here in Delta County, has begun.  Our goal is to provide you with information about the summer activities you can enjoy.

It this issue, we are proud to present our new brochures "Vines, Wines, and Brews" which features our member wineries and brewery in Delta County.  The brochure provides an overview of our members as well as a description of their product. The brochure will be available at the Chamber of Commerce and at our information centers.

We continue to use all our marketing tools to provide exposure for our members.

Vines, Wines and Brews

Local entrepreneurs are taking advantage of our areas ideal climate for growing grapes, and in the past few years, vineyards have sprouted up throughout the county. Lake Michigan and the Bays de Noc provide the same moderate climate to Delta County as the Grand Traverse Bay and Lake Michigan provide to its cousin to the south Grand Traverse County. Wine is not the only specialty beverage taking root in the county; we also have deep beer crafting roots. The Bays de Noc Brewers Guild supports craft beer and meets monthly at our award winning microbrewery. Whether you are a connoisseur or casual consumer, an experience to delight your palate awaits you on the shores of the Bays de Noc.

While in the area make sure you "wine"d your way to these great places:

Local Author Reading: Jane Mudrovich (Kidder)

Wednesday,June 12th

Local author, Jane Mudrovich, will be presenting her first published book this Wednesday, June 12th at 7:00 p.m. in the Bonifast Art Center Studio.  Her book, Exorcising the Googie is the story of a wary pair of fourteen-year old twin girls coming of age in the early 1960s.  A casual reception with refreshments and book signing will follow.  This free event is recommended for teens and adults.

Jane is a licensed professional counselor in private practice and is an adjunct professor of behavioral science in Bay College.  Her book is on sale at Book World in Escanaba, barnsandnoble.com, amazon.com.  The book can also be bought during the event.

About the Book

Exorcising the Googie is the story of a wary pair of fourteen-year old twin girls coming of age in the early 1960s. Mom, Dad, and an older sister round out the family group.

Lilly's story opens during the wake of her beloved Serbian grandmother, whom she calls Baba. "Married cousins with babies came in from Detroit. The men brought their own beer and kept a keen eye on their glittery wristwatches. Card tables were set up in my Baba's living room, and while the men played card games under clouds of cigarette smoke and piles of money, their women gossiped in the kitchen over kettles of Serbo-Croatian foods. No one arrived at my grandma's house without a platter of pastries, a pocketful of jokes and a wad of wet handkerchiefs."

After begrudgingly accepting sweaty Charlie Freeber's invitation to the eighth grade prom, Lilly attends in a dress sewn by her mother that hangs over her lanky frame like a flour sack. Her fraternal twin sister, Violet Jane, attends with her toadies and feels like the spirit of Scarlett O'Hara with her cinched-in waist.

Lilly's tale tells of simpler times and of the many mishaps she has with Violet. Her fond and cherished times with Baba unfold throughout the novel. Even in death, Baba comes to Lilly in her dreams to share her magic and protection.
